Hi.
Mary christmas to all you guys on the blog.
And welcome back.
I am writing to comment on all the new posts.
Filesharing myths.
hmmm.
Something to wander about.
I have mp3s here, now could an mp3 be a virus?
Makes you wander.
I use dc++ for shares but not much.
I don’t torrent because torrents run slow here and I refuse to use them.
I use divshare, sendspace and others but again not all the time, divshare is what I lean to lately.
Most of my stuff is off private ftp servers.
Even so unlike some of the users here I don’t touch filesharing.
Not because I am against piracy of things but that I never needed to.
Pluss my brother can get me things from limewire.
ANd as I mentioned private servers.
I must admit that after trying bareshare, I got hit with a trogen and had to reformat.
Realising there were trogens I searched bareshare for stuff.
I am sure if I searched for mp3s I’d be safe.
I never used coman folders though, I always used my downloads folder for everything.
However I think that filesharing at least the traditional shares will either dissapear or something.
My reasoning is that all the malware junk clutters search results.
After being hit once and knowing I struggled to find what I wanted.
Its like going into a bookstore and finding all the stuff you realy want is at the end of a folder with newspaper clippings as high as the roof.

Macos
hmm thats serious.
Apple better get this fixed.
I do feel for the users that need to reformat to fix their systems though.

Firefox.

Hmm interesting. I suppose people can miss out files still.

Data security.

Not sure if this is a biused list.
But if it aint then it looks like security is the least thing we need to worry about,, and malware is the next thing over the security thing.
We should worry about mostly physical security for the systems as supposed to software security, and to keep track of records etc.
Thats actually quite welcoming.
On the server, users on there use a range of stuff from university high performance apps such as r and matlab, to office 07 draggon 10 and limewire although I don’t touch filesharing stuff bar dc because I don’t care for the junk and access things.
Because of this and that one user got viruses from uni a little while ago, we have avg at full power and zonealarm.
all this stuff as you can imagine, really boggs down the server.
I decided fullishly I may add to upgrade the ram.
new ram does not work.
fine however the system was dusty and needed cleaning with the compresser in the garrage.
After which the system has been locking on virus scans and other things.
Every so often like 6 months we clean the junk of all the systems, spyware, cookies, temp files, and other junk one collects from cyberspace, its a fact of life.
Even machines collect their own mess and someone has to take the trash out every once in a while.
We do not have the practice of formatting every 2 years but we are just lucky, maybe.
Its my opinion that if you get a virus or trogen every2 years or so, then thats just bad luck.
Anything less than 2-3 years is suspect, a year for instance is a worry.
6 months is a bit more concerning.
anything less than that like every week or every day means that you are a messy untidy cronk.

HOwever back to the server.
Its no longer starting at all.
So I should have waited for the tech we have that makes these monsters.
Now I need the server up by the end of march.
the hdd seems in tact though.
I suspect one of the fans is bung.
So we have that and the ram to sort.
If we get it set up, I plan to have it reformatted.
