Hi all.
well winamp 5.5 is out.
Here is what is new.
there are memmory leaks fixed and some accessibility issues fixed.
Note! the major change is that you can’t cue files in winamp anymore.
to do this you need to enable it.
go to options/prefs.
select shell options.
or explorer shell options.
the first checkbox will say allow cueing of files in winamp during playback or something to that effect.
this must be checked.
after that there will be a load of other boxes.
most of these you can leave alone.
however you need to check the delayed playback checkbox.
you then should select from the list of radio controls the second one that says play at end of cue.
the last thing on the screen for options just before the ok button is a list of icon.
you need to select encue in winamp.
you need to push space, for whatever reason this is a list box of items that need to be ticked or something hal will not announce it at me.
then hit close.
and everything should work fine.

Friday, February 27th, 2009updates
Thursday, February 26th, 2009Hi.
the following updates were released for xp home and pro.
The root certs update is out.
so are 3 numbered updates, 2 critical one optional as well as the root certs which are also optional.
on xp home systems you will get an xml core update.
today you also get a silverlight update.
spybot databases and spywareblaster database and language files are up to date.
klite mega codec pack is up to date or strictly speaking that updates quite more than I post however I update less often than its posted once every year maybe twice.
My main reason to update was the return of the main server box which supports a printer, some photos although not all of them, and some files although the workstations share their own tasks so its really just the printer and a few other things now, no actual files are shared as such anymore though as this is not needed.
The main system is devoted to student work mostly, the printer which I am the only user a ventrilo server which is hardly used a couple poker games and other sharing things, well 1 sharing thing.
Thats less than it used to be, but requirements have changed here.
most functions, ie encyclopedias, most photos etc are hosted on a private workstation with scanner support although this will be duplicated.
My system hosts ventrilo, skype, teamtalk.
almost everything the other systems host except for photos and encyclopedias and poker and one other sharing service.
my system also hosts flashfxp on it and games ofcause.
this should be my status till well maybe 2 more years when we upgrade the cpu of the server.
and the hard drives.
The only upgrade planned is to get a hard drive for the server for data storage.
Later all

GW Micro Announces Support for Java Applications
Wednesday, February 18th, 2009As they say: better late than never?
From the GW News list sent Feb 11, 2009.
GW Micro is excited to announce support for Java applications through the new WE4Java Window-Eyes script, developed by Jay Macarty.
The WE4Java Script Central web page describes WE4Java as a script that “provides access to Java based programs using an alternate technology from the Java Access Bridge. This interface communicates directly with the Window-Eyes COM object model via a public API.”
WE4Java is designed to send information from Java applications to Window-Eyes via the Window-Eyes scripting COM interface. Because Window-Eyes is a COM server (meaning other applications can send information directly to Window-Eyes), the possibilities of making any application accessible are endless, regardless of the programming language an application is developed in.
“The Java language is, at times, regarded as being limited in the area of accessibility and not particularly screen reader friendly, ” says WE4Java developer, Jay Macarty. “However, Java actually has one of the most powerful accessibility frameworks available built right into the GUI components. WE4Java simply takes advantage of the extreme power of the Window-Eyes scripting facility to expose the Java accessibility framework in a new and different way. We’re not re-inventing java accessibility. We’re simply making it visible as an external Window-Eyes script. In other words, the java access capability was always there. Window-Eyes scripting provided a way to unlock it in a new manner.”
You can read more about WE4Java at the direct script page. If you’re using Window-Eyes 7.0 or greater, you can download and install WE4Java for immediate access to your Java applications. Once WE4Java is installed, you can read the documentation by selecting WE4Java under the Programs section of the Start Menu.
Congratulations to all Window-Eyes script developers for all your hard work and contributions. We are excited about the future that Window-Eyes scripting has to offer.
The gw-news list is an announce only list used for GW Micro news and product information.

end of the line
Monday, February 16th, 2009Hi all.
It seems while the music industry has been trying to addapt that this may have been shortlived.
The riaa is trying to have copyrights modified in this country maybe everywhere to stop file sharing by asking isps to warn users they are pirating then if they get 3 warnings to disconnect them from the network perminantly.
There are are 3 big issues with this.
1. Its not really going to stop file sharing.
Even analists can see the industry is trying to stay with the old views of cds, etc and not the new views of digital.
2. With the prices of things if you really want to you can easily make your own stuff without big recording companies.
Analists predict that the industry really needs to addapt to selling digital or else die!
3. about 90% of file sharing is alegal, and then that basically everyone does it.
So its unrealistic that the industry can sue everyone in the entire world.
On that note worna actually may have to abandon a bann for videos on youtube because they are losing loads of cash.
My opinion.
I think we are seeing the end of an era.
Am I a big downloader of music and stuff through file sharing.
No not really, why?
I have others that do it here and I get it off the network.
Spyware clogs file sharing software and I just don’t bother with it.
I do on ocation use dc++ but not often, actually its only because a friend has a fast connection, can’t stand slow speeds.
This is also why I have not used torrents for a number of years.
I still use private password protected ftp for most of my stuff, which come to think of it is not much, servers die and come back, etc.
Actually to tell you the truth I have not used any sharing things in a while.
And its not like we crazily share stuff here.
Another thing the industry have not got into is how do isps monitor what we do, do they install spyware on our pcs?
Do the industry want to make their last days painfull as hell?
I don’t think anyone really will take this on board.
Its hard to believe anyway.
and even if they do.
Even if we do, I doubt its going to come to anything.
I mean If all isps start spying on us then its against our privacy.
The industry don’t think of this ofcause.
They really need to wake up or die!
Oh and on that note, we still ocationally support it if we really like an entire album, its not much.
But we still do.
I really don’t think this new law is inforcable guys, come on give us a break for frack sake!
Either die quietly or adapt.
And if not then just shut up.
Its life.
Really is.
I do understand where each side is coming from, how to make cash from digital content when prices of a track can be just 99 cents.
How to make cash.
Well you need to change your model some.
To tell you the truth, at some point I plan to make cds of my piano playing.
At first I may use a studio but eventually I’d like to make it myself with my own stuff.
And when I make stuff one of my conditions on my contracts will be that its all going to be avalible as digital mp3 download.
I am happy to addapt.
so there we have it.
Oh, all those that want to try to see if this is on my lj please go to this thing.
I am not retyping this rant.
stupid podcasts and hal updates
Saturday, February 14th, 2009Hi.
hal interceptors 10.02 are out.
I am using the latest drivers now.
On that note, I plan to if I get a vista system I could handle breaking slightly by doing a stupid test.
Maybe someone bored enough has done this.
Sincde hal or other dolphin product sam, and intercepters are free including vista my theory is that v 5.21 and later should load in vista.
Here is what I would do.
run the latest sam installer.
run the dolphin intercepter installer.
restart the system.
when prompted for each.
run hal installer set hal to not start.
restart the system after installing hal and orpheus.
now run hal update to 5.21.
restart the system.
run the intercepter installer.
uninstall intercepters.
restart.
install interceptors again.
restart.
now start hal.
if hal crashes it may with orpheus, or not, not sure, try a sapi 5 device.
note if you have realspeak which is vista complient install that.
else you probably need to break your sapi dev9ices in vista with sapi 5 or whatever maybe sam will detect the sapi 5.3 device you need to check, since its vista complient should work.
Now try it.
I’d be supprised if these work.
In fact if the system chunders then does not start I wouldn’t be suprised.
If it does work, install jaws 6.
don’t restart at any point.
install the latest interceptors for jaws pen and then restart.
now jaws may work.
however if any of these work I am not sure how well.
if they do then one can clown around.
Now I need a machine to bugger up.
If this works without a hitch then its another geeky way to fiddle round with another stupid ammount of time.
podcast 84
Friday, February 13th, 2009podcast 84 is here. I put it up a few days ago. Sorry for the delay in podcasts, here it is. Its not long, and covers some things that may be of interest. More coming soon.
new things
Thursday, February 12th, 2009Hi all.
firstly all users should get avg 8.0.234 now, it appears its back on the server.
spybot 1.6.2 is out.
A few things to note.
There are 2 ways to load this.
first you may download it from spybot.com
you can either use the safernetworking service which I recomend as you don’t really want to waid through loads of adds to get downloads or you may use a mirror.
2. update with the updater in spybot 1.6.
when the update dialog comes up select bn file forum as your mirror.
then continue.
uncheck all detections updates and leave 1.62 main checked.
updating will download an installer.
Now it will start automatically.
click install and wait for the 16 mb file to download.
it will go to the desktop and the temp file will stay there.
On eather case you should be at the right screen.
If you did this from the updater or from the download page you will either have to run the installer or the installer will run.
you can basically just install and not change anything as your settings are saved.
When installing you will get a load of errors for protected files that will not load.
These files have been protected bby spybot, and because of this spybot will not install.
just click retry so spybot can update them, you should get 3 such errors.
wait till the files are extracted and run spybot.
may take a bit to do.
oh notice that when you first download aditional files you will get an access error.
click retry and the stuff will eventually come.
update spybot.
setting the mirror to bn file forum, download the required selected updates with the download button.
then spybot starts.
close spybot then the updater then relaunch the updater.
from the mirror list you select the same mirror as before.
now right click an update and slect all.
thats an option by the way.
then download.
All the extra languages/help and other stuf will download in a couple minutes.
and thats that.
Spybot seems loads slower on loading, I suspect more data to go through.
bits
Wednesday, February 11th, 2009Hi.
the following may not appear on all systems.
ie7 update. (I suspect ie6 and earlier is out of support)
avg 1.34 (note you may get a load of defs or you may get a core update)
things you should get on your system.
activex kill bits roleup.
ms malware tool feb09.
Sun java.
v6.12 has been released.
changes as of 6.11 it appears they have fixed the installer where you don’t have a change all componants option, and just can remove or not.
from 6.12 it appears there is no free program bundled with the software.
Please note to repair your java access bridge afterwards.
also note to remove any removable drives before updating.
else you will have a long wait.
if you are on a network with drives you are on best disconnect from that else you will have a long search time.
you still need to remove the java autoupdate program.
A note which I have no known solution for.
and maybe someone on here can help with is the fact nokia pc suite associates all audio files and video files and all java files.
although I can restore all the audio and video files to their propper settings,I need to know what the runtime file for java is to run native java applications.
I think I reset it but after nokia updates their software I will have to do all of that again.
Thats all this week.
