softwarepatch updates

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Hi all.
this is to tell all of you that www.softwarepatch.com has come with a load of updates today.
please look through them to see if you have them all.
most of them are old updates softwarepatch has been lagging behind, for reasons of old news and time I will not go into these here but directx march, java vm and other things are there.
look carefully through the main page to see what you want and get it.

updates for the last 2 weeks.

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Hi all.
why has there been no actual postings.
last week 2 updates came out.
avg 8.5.239 and spybot sd defs.
today spywareblaster defs came out.
These updates were data and avg one was trivial.
No real need to post.
On windows update there is another ie8 compatibility optional update.
Ok, ok so you are posting this meaningless stuff then?
Um no, what I am actually posting is that its that time of year again.
ANother certificate package.
So?
Ok so you really don’t care about this.
In itself as an optional update its not much.
However its actually quite important for you the user rather than the computer.
Every 6 months or so certificates round the net for windows update and other sites will expire to stop people actually getting in or something along these lines.
A new pack is issued by then.
All that will happen in most cases is that you will get you are trying to access a site with an expired certificate on it.
If this is however online banking etc then you may get a different message.
You can’t access the site because the certificate is expired.

You should get this optional update if nothing else.
Note! at the time of writing users of everything over ie6 maybe 7 definately 8 and maybe its all of them.
Well windowsupdate is currently overloaded.
You may have to wait for an age for the site to get up.
you may crash and have to restart, the site may not display, you may get 0×80 errors, you may get malware errors from ie8.
It took me the last 45 minutes to get everything up to date.
most of that was running windows update and ms update.
These updates don’t need you to restart but restart anyway just to make sure.
close all other sites when doing the update to.

What else can go wrong with certificates?
This is to just cover myself.
Note! this will not solve your issue if you have a flat cmos battery, or a power or internet falier happens during a windows time sink.
I suggest you turn windows time sink off in date and time to avoid this issue.
search google for dimention4.
I think its on www.thinkman.com but who knows.
v5.0 is the last version so far.
Run this every so often especially at day light and standard time changes.

The first part of this article covers cmos battery, the second part covers other issues.
1. replace the cmos battery.
2. get someone to help you to set date and time in the bios.
3. continue to part 2.
part 2.
If you are unlucky enough to have a laptop or not desktop will work.
and have either a power or net falier, during a windows time sin,k, note more likely a network falier will cause this power is just either or since I had a net falier, well if you are unlucky enough to have an outage of your net say something overloads your ups and your router disconnects forcing a restart of the router during a windows time sinc and you have not turned off windows time sinc.
This is what will happen.
restart your system.
You will get several weird things.
1. firstly all certificates will be expired, no internet access basically.
2. antivirus and other programs will say you are out of date even if you update.
3. security programs etc will act real strange and do things because you are at the wrong time.
If you recieve any of these things run www.windowsupdate.com
You will be told the certifficate has expired, and to change your time.
check date in time, you may find that you are something like 2-10 years out and your time is like midnight or some such.
1. set the date to the current date.
2. set the time to current time.
3. set timezone to current timezone.
4. set seconds to 0.
5 push ok.
6 run dimention4 or simular you are probably a day out still.
7 now disable and reenable your security modules one at a time making sure that you turn off and on all your modules as they really don’t know what is going on.
8 now update your blogs because if you did any enteries in your blogs they will be wrong, in my case livejournal locked me out till I changed the dates on the posts I was doing for several days.
I only had avg 7 at the time.
Note if you have destructive security tools and other things that happen when things expire then you will have to reset things.
If you need to reformat.

Ok, ok its not likely you will have any of this stuff.
have a ups if you can, and make sure you change the battery every so often.
How do I know when the battery is flat?
you don’t, just change it every year or so.
if your system dies during a cut or a serge restarts it, pull the power out the ups.
if it dies then the battery is dead.
There is probably a good way to figure this out.
later all

Microsoft having a password checker?

Monday, May 25th, 2009

This password checker looks interesting. It allows you to have your password checked to see if its weak, strong, medium, or best. If you’re using no script, microsoft.com needs to be allowed temporarily is fine, and its a graph type of bar. As you type, the bar will tell you. The mouse keys will tell you and should read this bar. Very interesting idea. Let me know your thoughts of this site.

TechGrits » Blog Archive » Spammers Use Services Like Ping Vine On Twitter.

I think one of the accounts that I had added to mine and was retweeting everything is spam, and I asked the spam account to look, but never got a reply. But be that as it may, this article seems interesting to spot the spammers and bots on Twitter. Lets go fight! thanks Tony from Twitter, one of my followers, for this. One more from him if I like what I read.

Technology podcast 86 is finally here!

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

The technology podcast is finally here! After a very long time and over a month of recording time, I’m here and ready to present to you podcast 86.

  1. Philmore productions talks about a new service that he is working on called Twitter by phone.
  2. Gordon of My Telespace reviews a product called Voice on the go.
  3. The rest of the podcast deals with Trend Micro Newsletters and some of the content in them. I also cover some of the blog as well.

The file is over 140mb, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I have putting it together and I also wanted to let you know that it is over 2 hours long. I know, I know, its long, however, a lot to cover. I’ll try to record as I get things and release more often. Enjoy.

long time no write

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Hi all.
Well I am almost on top of the main stuff to do with the hdd.
I have lost several gb of music and movies that I can’t get back at this current time.
however compaired to the fact that i almost lost everything last week and the fact that with all the stuff from after june last year gone and most of that able to get back I don’t think I have done to badly.
I have now caught up on the podcasts which is a torchourous manual labour, since I usually download one at a time.
music I have managed to get a little more than I bargined for.
Programs well there are some new ones but I am basically downloading programs like nokia pc suite and klite mega codec updates for backup I have no plans to update right now maybe I will when I am in a better mood.
Actually the real reason why I have curbed my exploits just to get my data back is because of work.
I am due to start.
naturally the hdd had to crash a week before work starts.
so naturally if I can get the system running all night after this last manual file download, I should be able to get everything done, probably will take more than a week, I curbed stuff I did not need away from downloading.
Saying that there is still a sodding load to get.
this weekend I will buy another hdd.
this means I can decide on what drive to use as backup.
most likely its the wd elements mainly because its in the secondary hard drive shelf and I can’t be bothered to move it.
for what its worth the broken 320gb drive is still usefull if everything goes to hell.
at least I can get things back again previded I don’t use that drive.
Right.
today I should finally get into thins I should have been doing all week.
piano, cycling, etc.
Sorry mum but this system takes priority over everything else even sleep and eating.
Though I think I can chill some now, I am through the worst of it.
Ok so on to this weeks list.
avg 8.5.329 is out.
spybot sd detects are out.
acrobat pro 7.1 and 8.1 updates for security are out.
acording to us cert ms power point 2007 and other offices 2003-2002 are out.
in addition for those that are using office components for 2007 file converters there is a system component update to these components.
Windows malware scanner 2.10 is out.
For all ie users ie9 is in early development acording to the ranger station site.
http://therangerstation.blogspot.com that is.
ie8 has another compatibility list view update as an optional install.
interesting, no security updates for windows or ie this month, are ms finally doing something right?
