In an article found in today’s newsletter, it talks about privacy policies and the worst offenders. While the top offender may take an hour to read its privacy policy, it may take longer with people who have disabilities who use some sort of assistive technology such as a screen reader, magnifier or even braille.
There was research done by a company called VPN overview, and they rank the scores by readability score. Here are the worst offenders.
- 1. Disney+ (2.83)
- 2. Instagram (6.19)
- 3. Coral (10.8)
- 4. Zoom (15.01)
- 5. Rightmove (15.54)
- 6. Wayfair (19.3)
- 7. Wikipedia (19.54)
- 8. UPS (20.51)
- 9. Adidas (23.54)
- 10. Uber Eats (22.73)
Here is something else interesting taken from the first sentence of the next paragraph. It says:
Tech giants like Netflix and Slack found themselves in 12th and 13th positions. Spotify came in at 14th, and Xbox landed the 16th position.
Sadly, says the article, you can’t do much about it. To get services, you must agree to the terms of service and privacy policy.
For the full article please read These companies make their privacy policies wordy and complicated. Some of the policies have very long sentences, the most being 46 words if I remember.
Maybe I aught to contact the company and find out how JRN and MENVI do with policies? I’d be curious. Thought I’d share this one.
