Stalking has never been so easy, how can we change it? A product might do the trick

Hello folks,

Scott Schober, one of our subscribers to TSB’s email list, runs Cybercrime.radio and other properties that talk about what is going on in Cybercrime.

Today, Scott pingged me by email and asked me to share something which is quite cool. Its an article he wrote on his company blog talking about a product that might help with the stalking problem.

Here are 5 Statistical points that I’m copying from the article to demonstrate how bad the problem is, according to the article.

  • Around six to 7.5 million people are stalked per year in the United States.
  • Nearly one in six women and one in 17 men are victims of stalking at least once in their life.
  • 50% of victims said they were stalked before the age of 25.
  • Stalkers harm victims with weapons in one out of five cases.
  • Only 25% of the victims were stalked by strangers.

There are other links to statistical stuff, too, and a great discussion on the fact that things like air tags have been used for bad.

You can search for air tag stories on how people were targeted and several got arrested for that crap. But we probably didn’t know how bad it actually was until Scott pingged me with this article.

Let’s share this. Being disabled, this really opens the light to a problem that some of us don’t know a lot about.

If you see this on Mastodon, I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. I can’t wait to hear what people have to say. Twitter is also welcome to comment too. Also, the comment board here on this very blog await you too.

Again, the article is titled Stalking has never been easier so let’s change that and it is written by Scott Shober. I think as I wrap this up, it’ll go in to next week’s EMHS update. If people disagree, it can easily be taken out.

Stay safe, stay well and learn.
