Over this past weekend, Namecheap, one of many registrars, had their email compromised to send meta mask and DHL email phishing.
For those who are not familiar with Metamask, it is one of these services that deals with your Crypto wallet. This is all I know and understand of it.
The DHL emails should be no surprise to people. The way those work is simple. It says that you need to pay to have your package delivered. Are you really receiving that package?
Suffice it to say, the company says their own systems were not breached and pointed to an upstream provider who also indicated that they were not compromised either, although that provider said they were aware of abuse.
Services should be back and running for email delivery, says all sides.
The bleeping computer article I spotted on Mastodon is titled NameCheap’s email hacked to send Metamask, DHL phishing emails and is just another reminder of how legitimate businesses are targeted either directly or indirectly to send out their lures.
Stay safe everyone, I hope that you read this if you’re a name cheap customer like I am. We need to know these things. Thanks Namecheap for fixing the issue so quickly and doing the research needed to protect our accounts and services.
