Welcome to another fight of keeping TikTok around. Back in late January, I read a Cyberscoop article titled Inside TikTok’s proposal to address US national security concerns.
In this article, they talked about how TikTok would allow Oracle to take control of the U.S. operation of the company. I was reading this while I was somewhere else and I did find myself laughing at this article as I could have the sense that this was all talk.
Please start with this article first. It’ll give you the background you need to understand this next one. I meant to blog this first one awhile ago, but maybe its better to blog it now.
Now, fast forward from that article to this one. This is a Washington post article that updates us on what the first article covers. This article is titled A former TikTok employee is secretly fighting the company on Capitol Hill.
The former employee which was interviewed for this story was only there 6 months, but he’s going to try and do his best to tell Washington what they need to know based on his experience.
The company, Bite Dance is saying that the former employee is lying and that the code lawmakers were shown is now out of date. The former employee waas apparently fired because they raised concerns about the project they were forced to sign off on.
They continue to say that they will have limited control access to the data and that companies like Facebook as an example have a lot more data collection than Bite Dance has. The article claims that Facebook asks for GPS data, and that’s true. Facebook allows people to check in to places, just like other applications like Yelp, 4-square and others.
As we continue to post articles and things that might be of value, you’ll see some of the stuff that makes me wonder how Bite Dance could continue to be in business and lie like they’ve done.
I did send this second article to Kim Komando, so we’ll see what happens as this migration continues.
Kim is still calling for the app to be outlawed in the United States. Over time, we’ll see if it is banned, but then we need to reign facebook in for collecting data it shouldn’t need at all too.
Twitter has its own problems. I am on social media, but I don’t live on it, don’t check in anywhere anymore like i had done when checking out features, and have no plans to do such things. They all have problems somewhere, but what are the biggest concerns?
