I’ve been spending time on Email Host Security lately. I figured instead of just uploading changes, I’d highlight what I am up to.
First, since I write a simulated PHP type of site, I can have several different files to give you the site. This is a small part of PHP which allows files to be included, so the terms has its own file, the company list has its own file, and the books list has its own file.
While I’d love to learn more PHP,, this is perfect for this site. With the most recent update besides starting on a book list, I’ve made some sructural changes to the copyright and disclaimer section.
This is because the resources page was so big that the file inclusion I talked about earlier was the way to break this up in to sections and I can better handle the vast amount of code especially on TSB and books sections. While TSB has its own page, the resources include books, companies, blogs, and terms which became too large because of the blog section with as many articles as it has.
Let’s start with talking about the copyright section of EMHS. This was something I’ve been pondering for quite awhile now and I think I have something I like. More specificly, I added a specific section dealing with soliciting the JRN for services. We’ve talked about each one in turn on TSB, and I’ve been thinking about how to deal with this. Especially since I’d not answer the phone, they wouldn’t leave a message, or they’d continually call from numbers from across the U.S.
The heading says “No Soliciting!” minus the quotes.
The text and its entirety says:
Please do not call for solicitations such as web development, social media services or the like. The Jared Rimer Network built this site as an educational resource which constantly gets updated based on what we read. It is not appropriate for this to be outsourced. If you want to be listed as a company or you want to advertise along the network, please utalize that right, but no solicitations as stated above. Thank you!
It used to be part of the first paragraph within the copyright notice itself, but by doing this, I’m bringing out the fact that this is important. And it also didn’t have the last sentence which I added within this change.
Also, I’ve added the text
If you want to be listed as a company or you want to advertise along the network, please utalize that right, but no solicitations as stated above. Thank you!
I don’t mind people and companies contacting us for advertising and the like, but I don’t need the help and I do all of this myself. As I told one company, this site gets updated every week with TSB. They thought it was a static page, but yet they so want our no money making project to pay them at least $100 (or more) to do work and install a CMS and have the site inaccessible to the patrons we serve.
Starting with this batch of updates, we now are going to add when the section was updated. As we update more, we’ll add these. For example, the books page says at the top of it:
This list was last updated 12:11 4/1/2024.
I can change this and upload its file without messing with the rest of the site. This might be of value to some. If people think differently, its an easy change. Not every section will have this, and the podcast section for TSB has a date of next podcast when we update it.
Speaking of editions, although this might change when TSB comes out, these are the books we’ve added. We ended up stopping, but I know what to do now and can continue adding books. Here are those books recently added.
- United States Department of Labor
- Thomas A. Jacobs
- Thomas Keenan
- Laura Shin
The page also was updated to this format as it’ll be easier as the books listing broke when posting to the blog with two unordered lists.
Our links section also got updated to include Cyber News, Bleeping Computer, changing the name of Kim’s site to Kim Komando, The digital Goddess as that’s what she is known as, and we’ve added Ars Technica.
Also, under the podcasts and sources we use for the podcast and blog, we’ve added the following paragraph.
The following are podcasts and resources we use for topics or other informational things we talk about during the show. These sites may be used to blog things as well. The sites are in no particular order. Updated 17:12 4/1/2024.
As you can see, I’ve added the updated time stamp there as we might end up adding more. The blog section may also have this when we add new items too. Companies, maybe not so much as we don’t modify that as much, but its a possibility.
I thought by being transparent, we’re letting you know what’s going on, and you’re welcome to comment on the changes to tell me what you think.
EMHS stands for Email Host Security. Thanks for reading, make it a great day!
