There are warnings to be very cautious about opening attachments that are in emails from strangers.
A harmless looking doc, xls, jpg or ppt file could lock up your computer and hold it for ransom until you agree to pay to get a key.

The warning are real and so is a ransomware called “Crypto Locker.”
Simply by opening an email or visiting a contaminated website computer uses can infect their systems and the solution to the problem is not easy.

This is why it is important to keep your computers with anti virus software that performs updates daily.
