Apple getting it on both sides, whats happening?

There may be some strong language in the comments, please be advised when reading any comment. The JRN takes no responsibility, except where I want people to be civil.

OK, I read two different things via Apple Vis, a site that talks about apple products. One of these, I saw and participated in a discussion on and I found it quite sad twhat I’m about to post.

The good news first, Apple to Receive Accessibility Award from the American Council of the Blind (Jul 2, 2016) is great news. Apple, in my opinion, has shown me that they care about accessibility. All software has bugs, and I have found that apple products just work, and they are easy to use. The bugs are minor, compared to other software, and I’ve betatested a lot of software in my days.

The bad news. NFB Passes Resolution Calling Apple’s Software Testing ‘Inadequate’, Seeking Changes (July 2, updated July 4, 2016) is just the worst thing I have ever read and saw comments on on facebook. If the NFB passed a resolution to get Apple to include the disabled in their betas so they can help get the bugs out, apple has already done this. I know several people already that are part of the beta, and before the beta turned free, they paid the $99 to be a part of the beta program. I don;’t know if the NFB can single handedly get apple to do what they want, and the article has the text of the resolution in it. May the best side of this debate win. Comment in the comment,s, please be civil toward each other, I’ll allow swaring as long as you are coherent in your speech. I expect people to be angry, and I am not here to censor you, but to make sure your post is thought out. If you want to comment on a future podcast, please do so.

  1. Enter your comment here…Folks,
On NFB Resolution 2016-04, Software Testing, and Apple’s Commitment to Accessibility for All which was posted to Apple Vis on July 5th or 6th 2016, is a good read. I commend what Apple has done, and Michael hits it right on the head. All this is in my mind is beta software complaints which Apple resolved at some point. I have not had any issues with phone calls, and I really don’t know what the NFB is up to with passing this rediculous thing. Google and Microsoft have accessibility tools, but we still need some kind of reader to use both and with both, you have to go get it. Apple supplies us with it. I don’t think apple will be phased by this, and they’ll tell the NFB that the phone calling bug has been fixed. This is just weird. I do use KNFB reader and find it useful as well a s newsline. Make it a great day.

  2. Hi jared and all.
I am unsure what to think about
    this
I know for a fact that there at least one other organisation for the us, the acb I know that some have critisised the nfb as having its own agenda for the blind.
How can a company get an award but because of a disaggreement by one group be slammed for it.
By the number of resolutions released over the years apple is doing the good thing and not taking any notice about it.
It would be like someone sending these petitions and expecting someone to actually care.
We all know online petitions make us whining bastards feel good, but it does no fucking good and never the less we still do it.
I don’t know the politics and neither do I give a fuck about it.
Everyone knows that anyone can test a lot of disabled people do test stuff cbt coolblindtech tests things.
You can’t expect everyone just to be accessible out the box either.
Now there are a lot of programs and sites, that are inaccessible and there just as many that are unless its a specialised things and more are getting that way.
Sadly it kinda reminds me of my old grandpa.
He got his bags or my nannas bag stolen while in new york a few years ago.
Even though he is almost 90 now he claims that its because of the blacks and that all blacks are bad etc, etc.
To put it back here, apple gets recognised by the world for what it has done.
someone else bashes it because they have their own agenda and won’t change it for anything and always maintains things.
I am no saint I don’t change often either but this is rediculous.
To those that want to slam and critisise is fine but it just doesn’t mesh.
It would be like me using the attitude I used back in the 80s for today.
    Where is the proof.
There will always be inaccessible programs we can’t stop that and we shouldn’t blame a particular company because of it.
Do they realise apple did this because it wanted to.
Look what ms has done with narator.
Would they like a company to make a token jesture so they don’t sue or really care.
With all the screenreader mergers existing I feel there will be a big shakeup in the industry anyway.
Those that stick to their old agendas will quickly be run over.
In the 80s-90s for me it was fine to be the poor blind and helpless person, it got me off so many things.
I got away with that then I wouldn’t now.
I had to change, else I’d be left in the dust.
Where I draw the line is windows and its versions, and malware and antivirus and its programs of which I won’t say more here.
I am not perfect and no one else is.
If you want to know how futile looking for perfection is look at the borg.
All the resource at their disposal and they can’t find it.
I am not saying stop, but please make sence at least?
Now I don’t mean we shouldn’t disagree this world at least half of it is democratic and fair.
I draw the line where one group disagrees because they have always done it.
I have heard on radio stations that nfb has always been saying the same things though.
they are full of old attitudes that don’t mesh.
I am unsure how valid that is.
Now true with some things apple could test a bit more especially for the windows side of itunes true they are a little flakey at times but still.
If they don’t get with the times thats their own problem.
