I’m not going to tell people what they should do, but Kim Komando and staff are telling people to delete TikTok in a recent article that talks about what the company apparently is doing.
Delete TikTok – Here’s what the Chinese company collects about you is the article, and was recently written and sent to my email today.
In it, the company still is denying that they are accessing personal data, and we talked about this on our Security podcast, podcast 48 as well as Security Now podcast 823 just to name a few places.
Podcast 21 also covered TikTok as part of our topic set as well.
The fact that now it is recommended to remove the app, and the FCC is getting involved should make this very interesting. I don’t necessarily want to tell people to remove the app, as that’s something I just don’t do. What I will do, is say that they’re saying that the app is collecting text messages and other information that you really don’t think social media should collect. According to the article, it links to a figure of at least 1 billion people using the app. TikTok also says that they are working with Oracle to store data in U.S. facilities but it is also known that people at the company have access to it. They also claim that they don’t store data in China.
Again, I’m not going to tell you what you should do. Just check out the article, and please make your own decision. Even if you don’t post videos, you’re at risk, Says Kim’s article. Now is the time to make the decision best for you.
Thanks for reading, and make it a great day! Stay safe!
