You know when something big comes along with cybersecurity when multiple sources cover it.
Within the last week, I published a blog post on the Agenda malware from Trend Micro.
This is very detailed and worth the read.
Now, komando.com is publishing this for your average consumer who may not understand all of the technicalities and we want to make sure we cover this for those folks. If you want the technical details, please read the Trend Micro article as it is quite interesting.
For those who want the simple details on how bad this is, than please read this Komando article titled This sneaky new malware trick is hiding from antivirus software and be aware. According to this article, no Antivirus product reliably picks this up. This makes it really tricky to defend against because of the simple fact that you’re told to run something that can’t pick it up.
What I recently did was use Virus Total to submit files and let it tell me what it finds. Virus Total is a site that allows files to be analyzed in real time bu many different products, some which we have probably never heard of.
Its best used in Chrome, and you can submit files or URL’s otherwise known as links. You can’t do tht with your typical Antivirus product.
I hope that you all take this seriously, this is probably as bad as it has gotten since 2006 for us when I was involved in getting AntiVirus involved in cleaning up our computers for something that we were seeing in this community and a program that doesn’t exist anymore. Stay safe!
