As predicted, NCSAM will start out on komando.com with a newsletter talking about newsletters. This is the link to view it on the web.
While we’ll be talking about a different article altogether, maybe these statistics should be passed along and I’ll make sure to bring these up to the team.
A linked report from Cybsafe and National Cybersecurity Alliance shows that tech users are ignorant on cybersecurity habits. You can read specificly what it says, as I don’t want to take the wording directly.
What I will do is pass the statistics along because this is something that I don’t believe I’ve seen when it comes to cyber security and password habits.
These stats are:
- • Just 16% of respondents create passwords more than 12 characters long.
- • 40% don’t use strong password combinations.
- • 43% don’t know about multifactor authentication (MFA).
- • 37% don’t have automatic software updates enabled.
While software updates are not part of cyber security coverage that I’ve seen, we know that it is important, especially if you use a computer.
We mahy see articles talking about software updates, but it is definitely important.
There is one more paragraph i want to take from the newsletter that is very interesting in the stat department. It says:
Additionally, of the more than 1,700 incidents of reported cybercrime incidents, 36% said they were victims of phishing attacks, and 24% fell prey to identity theft.
Kim gives advise and says that she can’t stress it enough, and I can concur. There are links within the list, so make sure you read the newsletter completely for complete details on this topic.
