Hello folks,
One of the TikTok articles I came across I’ve been holding on to, but now we have two of them.
So what’s wrong with TikTok? We know they have violated the childrens online privacy protection act (coppa) which can vary from country to country. We know that they have tons of challenges that go up to their network, but we don’t see anything about said challenges going out on other social media platforms.
Let’s make one thing clear. I’m not saying for one minute that other networks don’t have the challenge problem, I’m saying we don’t know that its going on over there.
The biggest reason why I choose not to use it is because of the recent reports of keyboard interception.
I don’t want to discourage anyone out there not to use the company, but everything I’ve read tells me that they aren’t the company to trust. Here is the tick tok search from this blog which links to a bunch of stories we’ve covered through the years.
The article linked above says that its not China we should be scared of, but it is because of influence. The specific paragraph says:
Today, most U.S. political discourse around TikTok is misguided. We focus on the news of China’s data theft and connect the dots from Experian, the U.S.
Office of Personnel Management, Anthem Insurance, U.S. government payrolls and intellectual property theft to TikTok. If new information suggests China
is up to no good (again) with TikTok, we are primed to believe that data theft is the real threat. But that’s not it at all. It’s our very public discourse
that is at risk — not from theft, but malign influence.
Please read the entire article, and we can discuss during the social media segment of NCSAM this year what you think. There are some interesting points here, and I’m not saying China is bad, but other countries have pilfered our data and I’m not sure we pilfered theirs.
If banning TikTok is not the answer, than what is? I would’ve supported the banning of such an app who doesn’t care for anyone’s privacy as shown above.
The problem is, Facebook should also get killed too for its problems from the past. Reports indicate that Facebook is losing money every day, and they’ve lost some millions of dollars already.
This article should also get read for sure, I did find this of interest and there are lots of linked items in both.
I’m not a lawyer, nor do I understand all of the issues, but I do know that something must be done with TikTok and others who don’t take our privacy seriously, especially if you’re taking everything we type for your benefit.
Thanks for reading, make it a great day!
