Apps that may become more dangerous over time

Hello folks,

This article titled Warning: Check your computer for software that puts you at risk was quite interesting.

I didn’t know that software had what is known as a “honeymoon” phase. There is a point to this article though, the longer software doesn’t go without updates, the more it can possibly become dangerous as it could be taken over by someone who gets at the code and decides to do something with it.

I’d suggest giving this a read, let me know what you think!

  1. Hmmm thats interesting from a security standpoint but in practice could be a problem depending how you look at it.
Now I do keep all the apps I can updated within reason.
Free and opensource, sure, payed maybe not all the time.

    So here’s the thing.
What if app x latest version has for example access issues or whatever.
Yeah if there is another app and you can switch sure.
But what if you can’t afford it or are unable to.
I can but to be honest what the pandemic has shown me is that fiddling round with your device doesn’t really pay anymore.
I want my system to be stable not have to deal with issues every day.
I didn’t used to think like this.
Sure, I upgrade but at the same time I really don’t want to rock the boat.

Now isps and others should upgrade but again there may be reason.
What about if your latest app is not compatible with that bit of older hardware that cost you millions.
At my university where I do some work its like that.
The app could be updated but then the hardware would to and well it cost a lot to put it in its going to cost more even now.
A lot of businesses handle virtual machines for specialised things.
Not every new update is the best.
In fact there are those in the industry that don’t update because if its not broken why bother updating.
For me myself windows11 is in that camp.
For what I do, and for what it is windows11 won’t probably ever be a thing I load here no matter what.
    But that could change.
Its the reason I don’t use 2fa with apps on google and a few things because of how they impliment it because I personally think its biassed towards their apps and their apps only.
It may be better but if I wanted that sort of bs I’d have stayed with norton and symontech corperation.

Obviously where I can I will keep it updated but I am not looking over my shoulder every day either.

I do secure stuff I need to but my free stuff has certain passwords, some of the sites share but some sites are only used for 1 or 2 things.
Information depending is something I do secure to a point.
My email is all over the place.
    They will get it anyway.
My phone number I don’t like it but my cell/ home number can be searched online as well as well heck my adress if someone really wants it.
My bank well yeah I’d secure it obviously.
There is a lot I learned when I studdied business law which is in public reccord, ie people can get it if they want.
Publically my phone numbers address, email to a point and some social media things.
I don’t really post on social media, I have 1 wordpress blog, 1 main email with granted a lot of stuff tied to it.
1 paypal, skype and a ms account.
I don’t hide what is on public reccord.
Then again I don’t make it easy.
I am lucky I have a homephone and a mobile I know people that run their lives from just 1 number.
I don’t care for that because that can get done easily enough.
You can be carefull but yeah its a hard one.

Its up to the user what risk you take.
Nothing is secure not even your password manager.
The most important things to me are my bank and my government id, the rest while a little of an issue isn’t though would be a problem if one of the major things went.
Sadly the most secure thing we can do is not post on any social network at all.
But we do post our lives so its no wander we have to handle the other side.

I still think that some people don’t recognise the net as a world.
And dispite of how its been the net aint a century old yet.
