There’s a new site builder in town, and its one you probably don’t know about … Google Sites

Hello everyone, welcome to the final blog post for the day.

I may hold off posting for several days as I feel this post is worth keeping front and center, but I’ll schedule things so that we can keep the blog moving.

The reason why I’m going to hold off is because I feel this article should stay at the top for awhile, especially since it talks about something I even didn’t know about.

The platform is called Google Sites. Actors seems to be migrating to this platform to build their sites and steal information.

What type of problem can that lead for you, the consumer? Plenty.

Let’s say you search for Paypal. Paypal is one of many different companies that have been used as phishbate through the years, and is actually mentioned in this article we’re going to link.

If you’re new to the Internet, you do the search and you find a paypal link that links to Google Sites. Since you don’t know any better, you go over there and either log in because you have an account but forgot the site, or even tried to sign up.

The actors now have your account info, or info to create an account in your name.

Recommendations include:

  • Don’t click on ads proporting to be the site unless you can verify it
  • Look at the URL sites carefully which I’d recommend
  • Run some form of AntiVirus, even if its malware bites
  • Look at this blog for commands to check links using access technology

In all seriousness, there are several different recommendations that they highlight in the article, and some I highlighted here. Some I just put here because I’d probably do here but aren’t in the article itself.

The article is titled See this in a URL? Don’t click! and it was written yesterday.

The URL now to watch for is google.sites.com according to the article. Clever, eh?
