Who is Smartflash?

It seems like Apple has been in litigation for many years by a company called Smartflash. This company claims to be owed at least 18 billion dollars after a 533 million dollar payment to this company was rejected and the patents invalidated.

Apparently, the article says that this company doesn’t make anything or sell anything and is known in the industry as a patent troll. This was discussed in a now defunked program called This Week in Law.

These are people who claim to have certain technology or patents that companies are using. They take this to court, and in most cases, they don’t get paid unless its proven that there is something out there that could be sold that includes that patented technology.

This apple insider article I spotted is titled Apple has been racketeering to protect its stolen services technology, inventor accuses which I found interesting.

I call bull on this. While I’ve not heard of this company that is going after Apple, the fact that nobody has heard of this company can be proof enough to me that there are problems here.

If a company sells things, we eventually hear about it and it could either peak our interest or not. Have you heard of the company mentioned in this article and have you had dealings with them? I’m curious and am interested to hear how the company treated you.

I’ll leave it open and I won’t pick any sides on this one. Based on what I’m reading, bull will still be called.
