Meta’s platforms are blamed for 80% of scams

A U.K. leading bank is warning that 80% of scams are coming from Meta’s platforms including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

80% of our fraud scams come from Meta’s platforms, leading UK bank warns was written on May 5th and I’m spotting it today through a boost on mastodon.

This is data based on analyzed data from the internal fraud department between 2021 and 2022.

If they ran the numbers now, would it find the same type of data?

Facebook Marketplace is the highest at 60%, says the article.

Impersonation scams are apparently up 300% and 65 percent of all cases using the platform WhatsApp. The investment scams are also at 87% with the majority of them on Instagram, says the article.

The article has all of the juicy details of this, and if that’s any conselation, its probably going to get a lot worse when TSB releases numbers for 2022-2023. Not looking forward to this.

See you all later.
