I’m not disagreeing that we need some sort of age verification to comply with certain laws like Coppa and other similar laws. Online age verification is coming, and privacy is on the chopping block is an update by the Verge which really talks about the complexity of putting laws like what may be out there right now.
I can see all sides. As I continue to think about this, we need to only ask for age verification for places like Social Media and porn sites.
Why do we need to ask for a verification for this blog or my clubhouse room as examples?
I am not going to quote this article, but it does give some interesting variations of what is suggested and why it would not work.
I think the token would be a great idea and less invasive myself, but I don’t know how to implement these things, but this is something we need to keep track of.
I know that when we created the Mix’s blog on livejournal, we had to put one of our birthdays in just to sign up. I get its a complicated problem. But I don’t think we should rush in to it without knowing what will be involved.
Let’s not rush this. Let’s take our time. Let’s get it as right as possible. Thoughts are welcome.
