Montana, come on down to not using TikTok! … How?

OK, While I’m trying to be funny with the title of the post, the article is going to be serious.

Montana recently passed the contravercial law recently and the governor just signed it recently too.

While the people like you and I won’t be fined for the violation, which is $10k per day, Apple, Google and Bite Dance will be responsible for the fines.

First of all, I don’t see how something like this can be legal. Unless you geofence your app store by state boarders, I honestly don’t know how something like this is going to have any mustard.

I know the apple store has a U.S. store as well as stores for other countries, and that makes sense. But for an app, how would that work if I were to have TikTok on my phone in California, but I end up in Montana for some reason? Would that mean that if i opened the app in Montana, even though I’d be in an airport as an example, that Apple would be fined $10k, Bite Dance $10k and me, well, not remembering it was banned in Montana not knowing they were fined for my violation?

I am not going to download an application that is getting at all of my data and can spy on me even when I’m not using the app. That doesn’t make sense. Its publicly known, yet Bite Dannce says that they only work when the app is open, yet indicated its buried in the operating system anyway.

If someone can explain this to me, feel free.

First US state officially bans TikTok, $10,000 fine per violation is the article. It comes from 9 to 5 Mac.

This … is going to get interesting.
