Hello folks,
Things like this are probably going to happen, and this is an accidental data leak.
The JRN recommends Virus Total because its accessible, web based, and nothing to install.
I don’t know how to automate scanning of attachments, especially if you use a client like Thunderbird, Outlook or the like. That would be nice.
Diva on Breaches posted this to Mastodon, and I thought people who read my blog should read this. Its an example of something that could happen, probably doesn’t most of the time, and yet … Google, who owns the platform did the right thing and removed it once notified.
Info included in the accidental leak were names and email addresses. VirusTotal Data Leak Exposes Some Registered Customers’ Details has all of the details of this leak.
I’m sure that Google being Google, they will probably not have that happen again.
I want to congradulate Google for taking the right step when they found out that this occurred and hopefully we’ll not find this happening again.
I hope people find this of good example, because while a mistake was made, it was quickly rectified. This is exactly what you want in this type of situation I think.
Make it a great day!
