Malware Bytes has their newsletter out, and we’ll be posting some things from them including this article that talks about the fact that tax scams are starting as tax filing will be starting soon if it hasn’t started already.
While I like Malwarebytes and the article we’re linking, I actually went to the IRS web site myself so I can see if I can find a phone number as though I wanted to call them.
There is no contact us link anywhere on their site, so this is why people will use Google or any other search engine to find a phone number for a company.
I guess I should ask Malwarebytes if they went to the site before they recommended people look for the web site and contact them that way? I found a phone number but only after I selected help. Most people are not going to search around a web site for a list of phone numbers, I can guarantee you. And, like in Amazon’s case, its burried. They don’t want you contacting them unless you’re disabled, that number is pomonent.
Here’s what I found for the IRS:
- For individuals: 800-829-1040 7 am to 7 pm local time
- for Businesses: 800-829-4933 7 am to 7 pm local time
- non-profit taxes: 877-829-5500 8 am to 5 pm local time
- Estate and gift taxes (Form 706/709) 866-699-4083 10 am to 2 pm eastern time
- Excise taxes: 866-699-4096 8 am to 6 pm Eastern
- Overseas: international services page
- Hearing Impaired: Use the TDD/TTY line: 800-829-4059 (no hours given)
Want to read what Malwarebytes has to say about the scams and what you should look for? There are images of this one, so make sure you look at those if you’re sighted.
The article is titled Tax season is here, so are scammers so please feel free to give it a look.
