Several new scams out there, maybe old with new tricks?

Hello everyone,

Don’t fall for these 5 new scams was yesterday’s newsletter topic from Kim Komando.

The new but possibly returning scams include:

  • The AT&T scam: This one is coming after the recent outage. They will claim that you owe nothing on your bill because of the outage. We learned recently that you will get $5 for the inconvenience for the 8 hour outage, but you might be able to get more if you call customer service.
  • Bitcoin on love: This one we continue to talk about and I’ve relayed stories of people who have tried to get me to give them bitcoin which I have none of. Even if I did, like I said in TSB, I don’t outsource my money to people or companies I know little about, especially if I didn’t contact them first.
  • Tax Time is on the rise, and we published an article recently about tax scams. Kim has a link here, and great tips for those who need to file those taxes.
  • Police needing payment by crypto is a big time no no, says Kim. If you owe the police money, I’m sure payment arrangements will be made, and not in crypto currency.
  • Finally, if you’re looking to do home improvement, don’t pay in cash, says Kim. We’ve seen this one in earlier newsletters, and I don’t want to see people get hurt and or lose their home over this.

Kim has all the details on these, although i put my own spin on them because I want to make this my own article.

The link to Kim’s version is above and I’ll be putting this on EMHS’s blog section on the resources page.

Please stay safe out there. We’re learning together!
