What’s new with Jaws, March 2024

Hello folks,

I know I’ve not done this in quite awhile, and I feel its time to try and do this.

I must say, once I understood how the new feature worked, i’ve played with it and it seems to be doing well. For convenience, you can read more about the picture stuff on the web, as the tables and images are stripped.

According to the Jaws 2024 page this picture smart AI feature is part of the opt in development feature set, something brand new to Jaws. I’d like to thank one of my folowers, Darrell Bowles on Mastodon, for reminding me that I had to enable this feature.

I was playing with this on my picture on my web page, MENVI’s logo, and CTE BVI’s logo on MENVI’s page and I think Chat GPT got the CTE logo much better described than Google’s product.

All we need to do is check a box in the early adopter program section of the options sub menu in Jaws and you’re in.

You can also turn on a Math option and there are descriptions for both options and feedback buttons.

I’ve used picture smart before, but this is going to change things, says Jonathan Mosen, podcaster of Living Blindfully and an advocate of accessible software and tools to be more productive.

I guess I ended up missing the fact I had to turn it on.

There are updates to split braille for those who use that, MathCAT improvements for those who use that, performance updates with the jaws task list ins+f10, message center, ARIA and web fixes, Office, Jaws itself, Braille fixes, and other.

I was going to try and put everything here, but this is a massive update, I’m going to have to give everyone the page to go read about it.

If you use the new Jaws picture smart AI fascility, I’m curious on what you think about it.

So far, I like what I see, but I’m not giving it everything in the sun either. Just like I use Be My AI for specific things, I’ll use this for specific things.

I hope this post is of value and thanks for reading!
