Ghost hacking is on the rise

Kim Komando has an article talking about ghost hacking.

Let’s say I die tomorrow after I eat dinner. After I’m gone, an obituary may appear. Its no secret that my name is all over the Internet, and with all the breaches out there, I’m probably out there waiting for someone to take advantage of a situation.

Now with the obit, they have enough info to try and pull off logging in as me on social media.

Luckily on Facebook, I have 2FA on, however, Twitter removed it thanks to Mr. Musk’s idea of charging for it as part of the blue service.

If someone were to get in to my facebook account, they could likely pull off the scary hello messages to people who knew I died.

Now, this is to be fictitious and hopefully nothing happens to me, but I will use it as an example.

Kim’s article is titled ‘Ghost hackers’: Don’t let hackers target your grieving family which recommends we have a will for online stuff and things in place to prevent some of what’s going on.
