Hello folks, welcome to yet another blog here on the technology blog and podcast.
The question on this blog is going to be the following: “What big four apps have recently lost its appeal because of potential privacy concerns?”
The article we’re going to link to within this post does mention a fifth, but i’m looking for at least three.
Because people might just read without giving it a thought, I’ll cover the one that may not necessarily get deleted, but might be first. This is because shopping may become easier in some cases, and with the right deals and shipping costs and packages, you could get a better deal.
Amazon
If anyone guessed Amazon, you might be right if you fit the bill on finding a different experience of shopping and potentially better customer service. I might have had an issue or two between stores, but who does not have issues along the way? No company, says the article, is immune to data breaches, and with more coming, I’ll be discussing what I recently found within my credit card app, Capital One. Stay tuned to the podcast for this.
Amazon may not have the best customer service, and their accessibility unit may be able to get you to the right department, I believe this company tries. Again, no company is going to be perfect.
There are some reasons that Amazon is getting removed including: stores like WalMart, Target and other brick and mortar stores offering competitive deals, fast shipping and better customer service.
With WalMart and Target for example, you can get same day delivery through their respective services, which do charge more if you don’t pay their monthly or yearly fees. Your milage will vary!
The first app that people are getting rid of is one that I never saw the point to. This application is Instagram. I understood it to be a picture sharing site, and since I don’t share pictures, better just not bother with this one. I know people within this community who have it, if you do, what do you use it for? The curious want to know.
Facebook has been in trouble with their privacy woes for many years, and this blog and podcast have covered these things through the years. Maybe not so much now, but they were once fined, and I bet they are continually getting scrutinized based on their behavior. How’s that working for you?
Snapchat
I never understood the use of Snapchat except its a picture app that is supposed to delete pictures after viewing. Maybe not so much according to this article. Wonder what changed? Those that use it, sound off, please!
Telegram
Telegram. The one with the most problems in Cybercrime. Recently saw a toot on mastodon that said that it was linked to the dark web than anything else. Maybe people saw Cyberhell: Exposing an Internet Horrer which we talked about on podcast 99 to boot? Its a possibility, but we can’t prove that theory. One would hope.
I guess we’ll never know. The thing about that movie, which is described and closed captioned, is that it really hones in on what type of application this is. I do know that it is also used for getting people in to Crypto and several of TSB’s own staff have been put in to these groups.
The article has their spin on why people are removing the apps, but the top reason people are removing these apps are because of privacy concerns. User preferences and competetors are the other two reasons and bulleted with information at the end.
CyberNews’ article is titled Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat among the most uninstalled apps in the US.
I’d be curious on how many of these apps, or even others you’ve removed because of privacy concerns or shifting in habits not discussed within.
