This next week, we’re talking AI. Do you have any other news?

I want to try and lump this post together, and if we find more AI articles, we’ll go ahead and add them to the TSB show notes.

Here’s one that has been sitting in my inbox for quite awhile. This particular article comes from KNX of all sorts but very valuable for their audience.

AI gives new life to old scam targeting seniors has been talked about in circles and other articles through the years.

The reason why it hit KNX was because of the area KNX covers and the fact that people may not be familiar with this type of scam.

The article talks about the “Grandparents scam” where someone calls and says there’s something going on with the child.

In this article, someone mentioned that they got a call in the middle of the night saying their grandson was hurt. If I got a call in the middle of the night about that, and I knew where they were, I’d be asking how this happened and whether they were OK.

The article isn’t that long, but for the audience the news media covers, this is exactly the right length and gives steps to take.

Next, Three bills governing AI in elections pass Senate committee came across my desk from Cyberscoop and is still in my email. This was a great one because we need to make sure that AI is used for good, not to be used for evil.

Latest calls that we know about were talked about where a president or senator would supposedly call you and give you a reason why you should not vote.

There may be other things, and this particular article is heavily linked full of things.

Speaking of elections and things, AI companies are promising that they will do things to protect our election. I believe this also comes up through Cyberscoop.

This article is titled AI companies promise to protect our elections. Will they live up to their pledges? and this is a very interesting question.

While this article talks about a commitment that is voluntary, people who are watching are not necessarily impressed with the fact this is voluntary.

Mark Warner, a democrat in Virginia, indicated that this is not concrete and a lot of questions remain.

Those are the big ones that I’ve spotted in my inbox, and I know we’ve got a lot that we read and can’t necessarily blog right away. I hope that you’ll enjoy this discussion this week on Wednesday through Clubhouse and we’ll see everyone soon!

  1. This is definitely interesting, Shaun. Yes, I am even using some AI in my daily life. I don’t really use the A’s and G’s for a lot, although I do play games occasionally on the A, and might do some other basic things I know it can do. The G I see as a music listening device, but now its got two timers for events coming up I’ll be online for.

This is more of a discussion point, and we really don’t know what is happening, especially when it comes to election stuff.

I’ll be blogging more about election stuff within the coming days and if I review those articles, those show notes will be updated with those links.

    Interesting thoughts!

  2. Hi jared.
Unsure if we can actually control ai.
Having laws doesn’t mean ai won’t be used for evil and if it is we may have little to stop it.
On the other hand ai may just become evil because an evil minded user asks it for something and it acts evil but is only filling its task as best it can for its user.
Evolving evil, thats a harder and complex one.
I know friends that embrace ai images, and all that.
I do have some ai access, will that change?
My alexa echo v3 dot has issues of sensitivity and I don’t link it anywhere.
I suspect that if I don’t need to use it unless I encounter it in my daily life I probably won’t use it.
This reminds me of my country’s id system.
It was required as part of my I guess you would call it a social security or whatever bennefits system you guys have for the differently abled in your country.
Anyway I needed voice access to use bits of the system.
    And some other personal info.
So I thought I’d just jump on board, link myself in to all the systems I could that I needed.
And while I had tto piss about with paper keys and the like and all sorts of things I now have to reverify my id every decade or so.
Its just go to a station, get a picture, get adjusted and I am active.
    Everything else just works.
My address is needed for bits of it so I have myself on the pastle network.
I am on the jobs network of the local government, and I am on several other systems.
It does mean that I know when I log into a government system that my central is being moved about but thats life.
2fa or 3fa in some cases is put in to access the system.
I don’t need to access it to often though as mostof it is automatic.
Of course it does help that most services understand where I exist at which does help.
This was before ai but it works and its fine.
I have also covid and health info and some of that I should have had access to but now thats part of my id to.
So as the system evolves my data will evolve with it.

I do think there is a fear element here still with our race even though we have more control than we know for now.
Eventually ai will completely take over and that will be the end of our unstable corrupt race and if we do it right we will be created better equipped for the new world order maybe as equal.
The biggest herdal tthough is what we associate ai with.
Look at startrek and the borg, look at the matrix and terminator series in fact look at most if not all movies with ai in them.
Ai is evil and will kill us.

    Ai is to be destroyed.
    Ai is to be feared.
It dominates most of the scifi scene.
    The same with aliens.
Most aliens are evil and are going to invade us.
We already know what the universe will do so we don’t need to look up.
World war 3 will appear soon and then the zombies will appear because movies say they will so we won’t need to look up.
We all know how we will die so we can close that down.
This will probably be what stopps us completely.
Even if ai goes good or evil?
We have so much created by ourselves against just about everything else that we won’t look up.
I have yet to exactly write this down, but one dream, I often have been having is a story where ai or a virus or something has destroyed us.
We all know what is going to happen and we make it happen and we don’t notice.
After all its unlikely a space ship is going to appear and look at us and wander about us.
Of course thats exactly what happens.
In my story yet to write down the world ends and restarts.
Everything restarts bar the us which is so full of what the end of the world should be that it is no longer relivant and needs to be sealed off.
Later on an ai and pilot appear to look at it and fix it and wander what the hell its about.
I have not written any scifi stuff but maybe I should.
Then again I say this every time I think of it and life just pushes over itself.
But maybe once I have a break from reality after my tasks are done maybe I will do something.
