I got an email this morning indicating Skype is retiring. Read this full FAQ to learn more.
I had a hunch that this was eventually going to happen, and I may have mentioned it in a podcast somewhere.
This means that (818) 921-4976 will no longer work after the billing period in May.
Seeing that I have credit that was used for that, outbound calling is going to get very interesting.

To be honest I expected this for ages.
Dad still exists on skype for overseas use, and I also have it still active.
They are still updating it but I only login when updates are released.
Its probably nostalgia that keeps it installed.
But that does bring back memmories to before y2k, covid, the cloud collective, ai, the new borg, a bunch of things.
Back then we had dialup only, now zoom, whats app and its groups, ms teams and several things replace skype.
Hell all those messenger apps like facebook are also targets now so I don’t even use messengers of any sort now.
If users really want to continue being skypeable, whats app is your closest thing to that and with my shell2 I am on the family groups for private and public coms and the thing is accessible enough.
If you have a card to save family data or a google account and especially if you pay for the 100gb storage which I may eventually go with, then its worth linking to the collective ai networks.
Anyyway back in 1995-96 the net for normals had just been born.
So much was different back then, aol, and yaho had their days, but for me msn messenger and its weird interface and the simpler but older windows messenger on xp was the popular chat thing and I used it a lot.
Then skype appeared and I used it a load.
After ms got skype just like after symantech got norton or avg changed their software to a nonsimple thing which left me with a simpler ms interface which while not the best works, etc, I pulled out of skype.
Then again by then most of my associates on and off the web sort of did thatt already.
1 religious guy I know would remain wishing all his contacts their birthdays but that was it.
Even these days I rarely use anything else.
Covid brought zoom to the forefront and if I need something for my online test contracts zoom will be my first choice followed by teams.
I never got into the dischord thing but I never got into masterdon either.
I have wordpress and a bit of x though technically for all users of gmail you do have blogger since thats been assimilated some time ago.
I do have access but never used it.
Livejournal still exists but after random spam attacks from there ages back I just stopped using it.
Wordpress is still active and I hope it remains so even though it appears that its test program no longer runs which is sad.
I am still holding out to gett updates but who knows.
Oh well it was nice while it lasted.
My version of skype I’d like to remember is the old skype2 which was the last version before they screwed it completely.
Skype is now a web interface which is accessible but like x its pritty much a graveyard now.
People have moved on.
I haven’t but the new world doesn’t ne this old ghost.
I will haunt the old world before y2k, before 911, before trump and probably world war 3 and the end of the entire world.
No, better to be in the past when it was all nice.
Remember that most of my life, good or bad including tech updates to software is posted at smeveriss on wordpress if anyone really cares.
Probably they don’t and I am just pissing in the wind, but this old ghost needs to let off steam from time to time.
At least that period was peacefull.
