Hello gang, welcome to the next article here on the blog.
We talk about using applications from the app stores, but this one has been removed for being malicious and then it continues to be a problem.
The app is titled RapiPlata.
I’ve never heard of it, but it basicly steals your info and then tries to get you to pay money for things that probably never was done, or some other thing it decides to do.
To make sure we’re accurate, we’ll take a bit from this article.
RapiPlata, a malicous loan app, remains accessible through third-party websites and still poses a clear threat to users.
Victims reported being subjected to harassing messages and emails, including threats of being labeled as delinquent debtors and having their personal information accessed and released.
Hackers targeting even highly secure organizations can leverage these personal data points as essential links in a chain of sophisticated cyberattacks.
According to Harmony Mobile, a mobile security platform, RapiPlata was downloaded by over 150,000 users before it was detected, flagged as malicious by a machine learning model, and removed from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
So basicly, they’re telling you that since you were given some loan you may have not seen in your life, you are probably going to be forced to pay.
The article does talk about someone who has gone and looked at the app, never finished registering and got threatening email.
I’d like to see the people they threatened arrested and tried for not paying something they never received and then the court find out that they were threatened after downloading said app.
To top it all off,
In fact, RapiPlata even achieved a Top 20 ranking in the finance category on SimilarWeb’s platform in Colombia, indicating significant user engagement.
For an app that threatens payment for things not received, that’s bullshit to me.
Besides, “although the app has since been removed from both Google Play and the Apple App Store, it remains accessible through third-party websites that deceptively present it as an official download from Google Play,” said Harmony Mobile.
There’s more. Malicious app removed from stores, still poses massive risks for users is the article.
Have fun with this one.
