New Book released next year: Ctrl + Alt + Chaos: How Teenage Hackers Hijack the Internet

Hello gang,

I know this is late, but this is a new release that will be coming out next year.

Jared, what do you mean its late?

Its late because I normally try to put things out that we’re going to talk about as part of Throwback. TSN and Sans podcasts have been non-existant lately, and this is the best I can do for now.

This book will be available for the general public next year, in January.

The book is by Joe Tidy, a reporter for the BBC.

Here’s more about the book.

An immersive, pulse-pounding exposé on the global rise of teenage hackers, offering an insider’s portrait of the dark net and the key players who are disrupting corporations, government institutions and our everyday lives—for fans of Bad Blood and Uncanny Valley

Julius Kivimaki, aka Zeekill, is arguably the most hated hacker in history. In one of the world’s cruelest cyberattacks, he blackmailed 30,000 psychotherapy patients with their stolen notes. Yet while the breach was singularly inhumane, Kivimaki’s rise—from twelve-year-old hacking nuisance to Most Wanted criminal—is symptomatic of a larger trend. His story gives us vital insights into how hackers, many of whom are teenagers, find their feet and become dangerous criminals.

In this gripping true crime narrative, cybersecurity correspondent Joe Tidy reveals that there is one area of the criminal underworld that is being underestimated at our peril—the dark digital underbelly where teenage boys are reshaping cybersecurity, cryptocurrency and organized crime under the noses of their parents.

Propulsive, urgent and scrupulously reported, Ctrl + Alt + Chaos tracks the rise and fall of global hacking groups to ask the question: How can we stop the cycle of teenage boys hijacking life online?

Here’s a link to the hardcover where you can tell Amazon you want Kindle.

This book is talked about in the podcast Dark Net Diary and you can get that podcast later tonight through throwback’s RSS feed.

I hope you’ll join us on the independent channel June 21, 2025 at 8 CT, 6 PT. This is going to be one interesting show.

Within there, you’ll find various articles that might be of interest. One of the biggest diatribes is So … What’s going on with the vistamo guy and his sentence? which was posted on May 9, 2024.

Remember, this search gives you everything and it goes back to the beginning if my memory serves. We even talked about this on podcast 120 among others, but this one is listed here.

podcast 16 is mentioned too, especially when this first broke. That podcast links to this blog post so take your pick.

Read, learn, and enjoy!
