Nissan confirms breach by threat actor Qilin

Qilin is one of the newest threat actor groups out there, I believe. These guys are part of a very interesting trivia question we asked recently as part of this up coming podcast BTW.

While we’ve not given all of the answers to this trivia question, its interesting that we’re now hearing about this group as I’ve never heard of them.

The company who was breached only has Nissan as their customer so far, and that company’s name is CBI. Nissan is located in Japan.

Qilin added 16 photos as proof that they hacked the company, and the goal is to give out the data to competators unless its sold first.

No other customers are affected as stated in the article.

Qilin ransomware has been very active this year, claiming high-profile victims such as the Lee Enterprises publishing group and the pharmaceutical firm Inotiv.

The threat actors were linked to the exploitation of the Kickidler employee monitoring tool and two Fortinet vulnerabilities (CVE-2024-21762, CVE-2024-55591), which enabled them to remotely execute code on devices without authentication.

Nissan confirms design studio data breach claimed by Qilin ransomware is the article.
