Hi all.
Ok so this is just a reminder that from saturday, I won’t be here for a month.
No email will be possible as I will be remote.
No updates or posts from me will happen.
With that being said I thought I’d post something for what its worth.
Office got updates, 2021 and higher for now and 365.
Windows 11 preview including sysmon.
Codecguide 19.53.
Dropbox 142 is out.
firefox and thunderbird are finally at 148.
I have toggled ai off currently but will probably invest in bits of it when I return.
A small note, if after you update windows store and you lose access to winget, and also are unable to install apps externally, run sfc/scannow from command prompt, powershell or terminal.
Run it twice then restart.
then run winget and answer yes to the country data send then it will work.
Note you may have to customise some tweaks after this but at least that worked for me.
Its also worth noting it happened on my win10 laptop but my 11 unit was ok.
Unsure what screwed but it did but is now ok.
There is aparently another medi app system breach which has been dominating the news nets for the last 1.5 days however its just dropped off my primary feed.
On the windows front, win10 will be getting malware boot security retired.
I am unsure if that really matters.
Then there are conflicting articles posted that you should either use or remove ai completely for various reasons that contredict each other.
Then there are things like midi2.0 which will have better device communication aparently.
If windows could natively use multiple sound fonts as synths maybe I’d care more.
The next thing is that rumors are about saying 2027 with the 27h2 will be more stable with early builds on canary.
Again I stress this again.
I don’t care about the next feature set or extra stability or extra security.
What I care about is if the system starts in the first place and doesn’t crash.
I don’t care about ai or care about any new anything.
Make windows stable and so on.
Leave it back at 10 I don’t care I just want my system to run stably.
I don’t care about antivirus, malware or security.
Its more important than my privacy having my system boot.
This is one reason I am on 10 still.
I think microsoft needs to fix things.
Rumors are that windows will have a new platform with more features.
Ok, look I understand the improvements but here is what it means for the user.
A new platform with better security.
That means we have to update our programs and some stuff may not be compatible.
In fact there are a load of legacy printers and devices that won’t work.
And if rumors are true then kernal amd core systems will be modified.
That means everything I have needs a new driver which means more issues with my working hardware.
Next better performance.
That means I have to reconfigure all the settings again that I have worked setting up.
Next better and more stable.
That means its going to screw things up a lot so yeah I don’t trust microsoft.
For myself as a blind person it means potential headakes both with stability and access.
In fact I doubt for most of us that this stuff actually matters.
Today I updated chromium stuff and mozilla stuff as well as some cloud software and a few codecs.
I also updated some drivers for my amd system and a few other things.
And while codec updates are fine enough there are also updates that don’t mean much for us users.
If microsoft is serious on this they should do the following.
1. disable ai or at least give us users more control over the subsystem so we can turn it off or only use bits of it.
Next have us able to turn on and off the modern start menu.
I enjoyed the old one in some ways a bit more than the other one though I can use it.
I will see you all when I get back.
