Reddit fined 19m US for UK law

The fact that I honestly don’t know what Reddit collects or doesn’t collect, but apparently they’re being fined over $19m U.S.D. because they apparently have children on the platform under the age of 12. I know of Reddit, and have looked at it, but I really don’t know much about it.

For them to say confidently that all of their users are adults within a country if they don’t collect info about who they are is interesting to me, and a spokesperson said this in this article.

MENVI has taken great strides since 2018 to make sure that people are told exactly what we collect and why.

The fact that web sites now display these cookie notices we have to accept or reject now is rediculous, but UK law requires all major companies to do it in some form.

But all that does is force people to click right through either yes or no, and that’s it.

So how can I trust Reddit to say they don’t have children under 12 on their platform?

Do any of you who are reading this agree?

Here’s the article. Its titled UK fines Reddit $19 million for using children’s data unlawfully and I welcome your thoughts.

Let the comments begin.

  1. To be honest I don’t see the point.
Most sites have this yes no stuff.
I did use a cookie bypass but it became out of date.
Anyway you can get out of this.
The only way I guess is to have a verification system on an account but even those can be bypassed.
Yelling at company x won’t change the fact that while we do need to do something anyone even a smart baby can probably and will probably bypass the banns and such.
There is probably fuck all we can actually do about it but the companies have to be seen to be doing something.
In the end we may just have to accept this and move on.
Eventually maybe another system will come to pass but to be honest if we compair all the drama including but not not limited to our current battles with the chinese, soviats and israille, not to mention the muslam terrorists that exist in irak and iran and all the new enemies that trump is adding to we have to kill all of them to survive by nuking every adult and child of the race in question before they nuke us with many terrorist attacks.
Point is this social media ongoing battle isn’t really worth it.
Yes, it is worth having the conversation, yes having laws in the net is worth it.
Yes we should have these rules in place, but at least for now we should let it go.
We have bigger fish to fry right now, this includes well a guy that may be losing his marbles at the helm of the us which may or may not be active when the next drama appears.
That drama is likely to destroy most of us if not take out everything we stive for even global warming is a secondary to this stuff.
Yes we need to talk about this and I am confident its going to get solved.
However the dynosaws are on the prowl and they are loose in jurassic park.
Never mind that one of those is one of us right now!
Its hardly a distraction but just one of these.
I’d let it go for now, we probably won’t be able to solve this for another 2 to 500 years anyway and its going to take that long to sort out all the issues that exist currently assuming we don’t add to the list.
On the other hand we had hitler back in the 40s and it took 50 or less years to solve that one.
But we were all friends against 1 guy and now there are multiple guys like him.
And if you believe everything thrown online, we have another possible dammaged guy online now.
In fact for my family and a few others we know due to the rediculous social media and laptop security privacy invasions and the like us travel is no longer on the cards.
At any rate, this is baggage that goes round and round.
If we are truely ready to discuss then we will.
    These massive corperations don’t care.
500 billion aint much for them.
They have the cash, they will pay and for a time everyone will be happy.
Everyone of course except the law abiding citizens that are just trying to fucking survive.
Look at the so called antipiracy laws and subs.
Its the normals that have all the issues.
The bad guys wouldn’t care less.
Its the good guys that suffer.
I would reccommend to put this asside for the moment.
If and when we catch a break then maybe we can try to get a law.
Right now we need to keep the net flowing no matter the cost.
At any rate who can trust anyone.
The net is a copy of this world except its any time you choose.
