Editorial, the amount of things that stay the same in an ever changing world

Hi all.
This week I went to the eye doctor for a checkup.
While there she suggested smart glasses.
I have used a symbian phone for many years now.
Its dead so I tried an iphone.
I couldn’t get the hang of it, and then when my dad switched to the droid he had so many issues switching I got put off.
I then got into the blindshell.
Its got mostly library apps and such and I guess is quite limited, however I’ve never needed much before and I certainly don’t need much more now.
A lot of people have gotten into smart home systems and the amazon system.
I should but I got an echo dot during covid to play round with.
I rarely if ever turn the thing on.
I update it from time to time and play a game or 2 but not much more than that.
I have a streaming account with spotify and bar this and my sport radio I rarely if ever use it for much else.
I should automate my home but I haven’t needed to for now at least.
I live with my family and I rarely if ever interact with anything bar the brailled microwave.
Later I may have to upgrade but I haven’t needed to bother.
So smart glasses need a touchscreen.
I never really mastered it exactly moving round, getting lost, unable to enter numbers, unsure how to navigate.
In the modern world I use my phone for calls, sms, whats app and weather.
All of this is on wifi.
I put in 40 dollars a year to do calls and sms.
My pc does everything else.
Ever since covid I haven’t done much but keep things running.
I haven’t had any system here fail and if it fails to start and I don’t get speech I just reload it.
It used to happen a load but these days it doesn’t.
I haven’t had major issues at all.
On my computer, I do some searches, checking and brousing sites, email and games with a bit of audio.
On my phone I don’t do more than I listed above.
I use everything on wifi.
Out of everything in that reguard, if I lost everything tomorrow, I’d only ant sms and calls really.
I haven’t needed to bother seriously thinking about upgrading to retry touch till now.
I guess living at home means I rarely if ever have to interact with anything.
I don’t see this changing any time soon.
If and when I switch to another location, I will have breakfast myself and keep it simple.
Lunch will probably be simple or brought and dinner will be with others and probably brought or something I can easilly put together.
I probably won’t bother with smart anything.
I should be horrofied with this me being a futuristic scifi geek but the strange thing is I am not.
I have had no need to change.
In fact ever leaving university at least 20 plus years ago the only reason I have office on here is to read documents.
I have not written a report, or anything bar blog entries and updating my gym diary and to be honest if I couldn’t do that it wouldn’t matter much.
I’ve never needed to upgrade.
This should apaul me, certainly the modern world should have spat me out ages ago.
I live in the dustbin of the old social networks and live in a hole in the dump with the old stuff that no one cares for anymore.
Strangely I don’t really mind.
Once I may have but not now.
Its depressing and boring but I know what I will do almost every minute of the day.
That itself is a comfort I guess.
So now along comes smart glasses and it maybe my push out of this hole and into the new borg collective.
I’ll need a new device and new tech.
True I will have to pay for the device and other things maybe I can get funding.
I will also have to pay for the online services for the ai mobile data, etc.
I will also be leaving my hole and entering infinit possibilities.
Then again, why?
This hole is nice and comfortable my stuff does what I want, why get up now.
With so many things against me its getting more and more attractive to just continue sitting here in the sand.
At any rate the new world has gone to hell, think I’ll stay here.
