Hi.
I thought I’d update the blog once things had settled.
Several update sequences of chromium brousers happened.
The first was a combined edge and chrome update on patch day with the windows and office updates.
The second was a chrome and edge update shortly after that.
Then its happened again this week.
Firefox and thunderbird are now at 152.01.
It appears the cycle of betas of firefox has changed to 10 betas and not 9 so thats to be noted.
updates to zoom came but not as many, zoom can do gmail now so if you want that its fine.
I personally think its distracting.
Codecguides stuff updated several times now 17.82 is the latest though I don’t really post this stuff.
Dropbox had an update to 58, but you guessed it they only just got down to posting the 256 installer so who knows what is up with the devs.
Again winget upgrade –all is your friend and should be used in admin or non admin command modes.
Thats win get it sounds like win git to nvda or is it win jit who knows but it sounds weird in espeak ng.
Over that the push to turn off bing, reorganise right side menus and the search box seem to be the biggest things.
There have been more issues with updates of the os.
For my self I have been battling as windows 10 gets closer and closer to end of life to update my system.
This hp portable with an amd 2500 gen2 cpu is fine but windows 11 needs a bit more power so its not registered in the requirements system.
I have 3 choices.
1. wait for this box to fail and as long as the main programs upgrade like email, and my brouser then I really don’t care I guess.
2. upgrade with a bypass to windows 11 and hope things don’t go silly.
3. get windows 11 on a system.
Aparently there are towers but no desktops in a reasonable price range.
The miniture stuff can’t take more than a second 1tb ssd.
I want a nice system with 4tb or 3tb of hdd and just be like that.
But you can’t and there are no desktops as the old gens like me used to know exist.
Its either miniture towers, big hulking monsters and not much in between.
I can get another laptop, and a 2tb ssd and maybe thats where I will finnish up.
But I don’t really use a portable system and I really have no wish for one.
At any rate there are still a few things missing from windows 11 which I wish would be done.
Firstly in the notification area there is no way to hit z and immediately go to the first icon using first letter navigation same with the programs panel in settings.
There is also no background tasks panel in settings so I can turn things off without either going through installed apps manually which is a real pain in the rear or doing a hack to make it all not work.
That however includes the antivirus defender sub system.
It took me at least half an hour on the 10th gen unit I have.
The next thing is that my use of this box has remained the same for ages.
I am still undecided.
What I may do is go to trademe and get something or simply wait for something to appear and get it.
Finally if push comes to shove, get something, and use my externals on it and just deal with it.
This is fine but if I go on the road I won’t have everything and if I need to reinstall there goes all my data.
I have the room but its not ideal to get a desktop full size.
I could store it under my desk but there is all the dust of course.
I could pickup an msi mini desktop which right now can have an hdd on it.
I would prefer a lenovo but maybe if I go desktop that will have to be it.
On the other hand a laptop means no webcam, external moniter and so on that I will need to buy.
I am seriously thinking of getting the thinkbook g9 portable 14 inch.
Lets hope I find something but if I don’t I’ll just let it run.
