In November, Krebs On Security published an article on how a researcher was able to get a Governmental domain .gov by potentially doing some things on legal government documents that can be obtained if you know how to look. In no way was the researcher or Krebs on Security indicating that this method of getting a domain like jaredrimer.gov would be legal, but at the time that story was published, it was definitely easy.
According to an article I read today from Krebs on Security, there are now some aditional safeguards, but of course, I don’t know myself if that is going to be good enough. I guess we’ll only have to see if any more research on this will be done to see if it is definitely enough.
The rticle U.S. Govt. Makes it Harder to Get .Gov Domains is the latest and it does link to the other story as well.
Do you think this is enough, or do you think there needs to be more?
