I’m seeing an article from Bleeping Computer about the trends in scams from January 2020 to pretty much today. California, New York, and other states have data indicating that this is a problem, and 12.7 million dollars were lost.
With all of the Corona Mask, hands-free thermometers, the promise of gloves, and the like I receive each day, do I count because I don’t buy anything? I’ve taken a look at some of these pages to see what types of sites are out there, but I’ve never baught. I receive at least 5-10 emails a day about the promise of air filters that prevent the virus, the best mask ever to protect me from getting the virus, and other types of mail.
Sadly, this is becoming the norm around here, and consumers need to understand what is out there. Just like last night’s article talks about, it includes the newly updated 419 scam that will continue to be updated with new threat models. They work because people fall for them.
That particular scam has been around well before January of this year. Lets see how we can protect ourselves so we’re not a victim by reading this Bleeping Computer article on the numbers to date. Lets take some advise from it.
US consumers report $12M in COVID-19 scam losses since January is the article, and thanks for reading!
