IBM joins other tech giants and pulls outt of Russia

In a little bit of a back dated story, we recently learned that Russia is really not liked. I really don’t blame companies, since Russia is now to blame about the Congress DDOS attack and while the music is good coming out of there, the Cybersecurity or lack there of is aweful!

This is a Cyberscoop article titled IBM joins other tech giants and removes Russian state controlled network from its cloud service and quite interesting to read.

The typical response of “We really didn’t want to do it, but we need to because they’re doing things we don’t agree with” seems to be reasonating across the tech industry.

I don’t have anyone in Russia on my staff, but MENVI has quite a number of people that come from different regions around there, so I can’t necessarily just decide to block the IP range although it would be nice. Maybe it’ll prevent a lot of spam.

With that said, I could leave menvi alone and block Russia on other domains I chose as I saw fit, but I don’t know if I really wan to go that far. Its the president that decided to do this, not the people who need services my network may provide.

The article talks about the Russian Television network, which is broadcasted around the world, and even has United States viewership. There’s also a timeline and links to specific dates in the past which might be of interest.

As I said, this is a hard decision, and I don’t blame companies that make this decision. I’m not necessarily a tech company providing services ongoing like IBM, HP and other companies who sell computers, equipment and the like, but this has to be something that shows the president that his decision will hurt them. Your thoughts are welcome.
