Are License Plate readers a problem? Komando.com thinks so if in the wrong hands

I am scowering my email and found License plate scanners are coming to more cities – Here’s what info they can collect in the wrong hands which might be of interest to our sighted counterparts with cars.

While there isn’t anything we can do about license plate readers, the fact that it is becoming more available to people like you and me could be alarming.

I’m not about to say that I’d go and buy one, as I have no need for it, although it would be kind of cool to find the people who speed down my street where I live and maybe help the police out by letting them know if I were to do it.

Police use these to track stolen cars and wanted people, but the article has much more that you, the sighted should take a look at.

Thanks gang for reading, make it a great day!

  1. I have no idea if these are an issue, however I will give examples where these are a good thing.
Firstly is ye old car park whhere you used to have to doodle with swiping cards about.
    I often use these.

Your licence is read, you pay after x amount of hours.
You don’t need to open a window to scan throuugh.
It took covid 19 for this stuff to happen.
Previously the systeem often crashed, cards kept getting lost etc.
Its actually saving the planet not printing all that cardboard.

There are a lot of apps to for parking, and also machines where you swipe your credit card for payment and enter licence info.
And I guess yeah depending where it all went to that could be a potential issue.
There have been also a lot of issues with some companies, like wilson in my area charging for things they shouldn’t and being unreasonable.
Of course threaten to sue and show the proof and they back down but this practice can be a problem.
I’ve never had this be a bad thing but like the net tech like this is good and bad so take it or leave it I guess.
