Giving unqualified people Cyber Security Oversite?

So, I read this water sanitation article dealing with giving these people oversite on the Cybersecurity of the water industry?

The article is titled Giving water sanitation inspectors cybersecurity oversight is a mistake, say industry groups, experts and it comes from Cyberscoop.

A White House announcement that the Environmental Protection Agency will delegate cybersecurity regulation for state water utilities through local sanitation inspections is receiving a growing amount of pushback from industry groups and cybersecurity experts.

I’ll say this, if the people are qualified to do the job, than why not? But from what the article states, the inspectors do visual inspections, and Cybersecurity for the most part is not done that way.

There are a lot of links within this article, so quoting this is going to be difficult and so I won’t. Tell me what you think.

  1. What about outsourcing in general.
Everything from technical support etc is outsourced these days.
You don’t use local, well you may get what you get payed for.
    I mean thats just it.
A lot of companies seem to think thats ok but I have had situations where the non company outsourced support caused some dammage to things.
They never had the correct info or stuff that was outdated, etc.
And with qualifications changing all the time well who knows.
Thing is generally you don’t need these kinds of people but when you need them well you do and so on.
With my stable connection and mostly computer I don’t need to contact my whatever company about whatever it is usually.
Sometimes I get lucky and get extra, sometimes not so much.
For ages I had a line that kept disconnecting and not having good speed on the net.
    Mr india just reset things.
Eventually I rang back and got a local guy.
And I was like, just reset it again like you guys always do because its happened like that 10 times now its not a big issue really.
The guy looks at the logs and suddenly is like, you shouldn’t have had to deal with that 10 times in the last few months, this is to high I think it needs doing with and they actually did something with it including replacing hardware and updating their systems and this in a weekend of all things.
This included ringing me back so they could read update manufacturer records.
But I have had it the other way to where things just got mangled for the wrong thing.
Sadly mr microsoft aint getting my custom on the phone because mr microsoft from india really can’t be bothered fixing my computer bar the boilerplate responce including reinstalling windows and not fixing my issues and this is supposed to be the accessibility helpdesk so yeah I think its more than security its the entire support and it industry as an whole.
Now highly trained people is fine but the only difference between the scammers and these people is they actually work for the company.
Its a real shame we haven’t learned that most of the time if you have a 99.99999% uptime you almost don’t need service but when you do it needs to be good service.
