This week’s topic: Violence as a service

Hello everyone, welcome back to the blog after a weekend break. On this episode of the security box, we’re going to cover Brian Krebs’s article Violence-as-a-Service: Brickings, Firebombings & Shootings for Hire which has been covered on multiple podcasts that I know about including episode 88 of the Smashing Security podcast.

I’ll write this up more in show notes for discussion, but suffice it to say, this is definitely an eye opener

The program airs at 11 am PT, 1 PM CT on the kmix, and rebroadcasted on bluestreak.

Hope to see you there and check out the article!

  1. Wouldn’t surprise me actually that it didn’t take this long.
Put it this way, the police are cracking down on street gangs.
Its getting better but because of the net and how its built the wild west still exists no matter how we try to run it down.
Thats where I’d go if I were a ganger.
Then again, there aren’t any traditional gang rules either and well it can be brootal for both sides.
You can’t moniter 24 hours a day, at least not unless you ultra restrict or actually fund it and lets face it, trusting the pc to handle it is a bad idea.
Ai aint that smart yet and when it gets it wrong it really can screw up.
At one end crashes and the like.
    At the other wrong charging.
Its easily fixed but if that side aint funded it needs to be done after the fact.
Maybe after the execution or jailing.
    Maybe before.

In those cases the later it gets the more paperwork.
Eventually enough drama goes on and your so called secret stuff goes public as a news story and well your funder decides maybe its time to pull the plug because after that its really not worth it.
And lets face it while all crime is bad so is it worse when you potentially screw up.
    It happens offline to.
I often watch people get handled by the cops.
On the other side I watch when they screw and watch them become the bad guys and laugh at them.
But I really shouldn’t be doing that these mistakes shouldn’t really happen like every day or something.
If its that bad outside how often has it happened online.
We won’t know of course and agencies have screwed up a lot more than is healthy I am sure but its bad enough if its inside, but if your meltdown goes outside then questions are asked and it gets really bad.
Like half the drama us humans seem to like to do with and to eachother this is just another open ended thing we live with without any solution.
Any answer I could put if I had any would probably have a down side.
I don’t want to bee the lamb this morning or the christmas chook so I’ll leave it open.
