The Psychology of passwords report for 2022 is out, quite an interesting article

Hello folks, its time again for Lastpass to come out and let us know what’s going on in the password behavior for this year.

Since I don’t know people personally who may come to this blog, please understand that we’re not targeting anyone when we post this, and you should read it to see where you stand.

One paragraph talking about the report states:

In our new 2022 Psychology of Passwords, we explore what people think they know about cybersecurity and what that means for how they choose to protect themselves online. For the first time in this annual report, we also analyze how people learn about cybersecurity topics and the generational differences in approaching digital security.

This might be of value, since people learn about Cyber Security much differently than others. While TSB may be one way people learn, other podcasts like Security Now may be the way. yet others come, join in a podcast for an episode or two, not to be seen again.

In our community we serve, which mainly is the blind and disabled community, I bet there are many who come and go, while others may find their way in this crazy world without much difficulty. Others will do things the best they can, and don’t necessarily care either because they don’t care or they don’t honestly know what they’re doing may become a problem if it becomes one.

Last year, we know that the pandemic has played a huge part in the shift of behavior and that’s a good thing.

There are five different bullet points that is in the article. They are:

  • Whether people are overall more cyber aware – and where their cybersecurity habits fall short
  • The disconnect between cyber awareness and implementation of good cybersecurity practices
  • Why tech savvy doesn’t mean more secure
  • The pros and cons of how different generations approach cybersecurity

  • Strategies to move past awareness and towards action

I don’t know how they say that most people are receiving cybersecurity training, I know there are many in this community I serve that do not know much about what it takes to be secure. While the report indicates that 62 percent reuse passwords, but it could be much higher within this group I serve.

They say in the article that education and awareness might not be enough. What might we need to do to change this?

This will be discussed in December as part of TSB before our year end. The schedule of rooms are already in our Network club, so feel free to check the schedule and join us!
