Actors will stop at nothing to get you to click. While I used private browsing mode after verifying the link seemed OK, it was a redirector link.
In my spam folder in one of my accounts, I spotted an email that had a response confirmation in the subject line.
The link said Dicks Sporting goods and the link is: https://87451245812.storage.googleapis.com/i.html#c11550ORVEH927257bUZl481877xRb23524Hjjf37
It actually redirected me to another domain and said that I won and the particulars were for today only. But I wasn’t fooled. I mainly was curious because this can be a teaching moment for people to learn what to look for.
This was before I spotted this article from komando.com’s staff titled Why you keep getting fake emails from Dick’s, Delta and Costco whcich seems to be very timely.
I wonder how Kim knows I get this stuff in my email? This is quite interesting and thre are different types of steps we can take like looking at where the link is going before we click on them.
Make sure you check out the article and don’t go to the link I provide, I didn’t even complete the thing, even though I was in private browsing mode.
Stay safe!
P.S. the only reason why the url came up clean was because there isn’t anything malicious when going there, at least not on first glance. it may say you’ve won something, but then you need to interact with it. Maybe at one point, it’ll be flagged by the browsers.
