Twitter’s security practices being questioned again

I recently read an article from Cyberscoop called Senate Democrats call on FTC to investigate Twitter’s data security and this sounds familiar to me.

I thought that we heard a story like this once before, but as usual in my book, they don’t do anything.

This is a bit different, because the first paragraph states

A group of Senate Democrats including Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., are calling on Federal Trade Commission to investigate potential security issues at Twitter since Elon Musk purchased and took over the company late last month.

If twitter is in violation of what they agreed to, Mr. Musk will not be too happy to pay out more money than what he has already done to take over the company.

Never mind that the industry I serve is going ape because Musk fired the accessibility team over at Twitter, and never mind that a lot of this community may jump ship and leave twitter for Mastadon.

While It would be a good idea for me to get a Mastadon account, I said last night during the Herbie Allen show on the mix that I was not planning on jumpping ship. I hardly use social media fr its intended purpose, and that is to tell everyone what I’m up too. With that said, if I got a Mastadon account, I would be very selective on who I follow back, what I post (toot) and how I use the service as a whole.

Seeing that Twitter is now allowing anyone to buy a verification badge makes it easy for scams of all types to continue and be more rampant then it was prior to this change.

There’s a lot of linked material here, so quoting and taking this apart is going to be hard to do. Just check out the article if you haven’t already. It was a very interesting read.

And before I sign this blog post, why is it the democrats that are calling for this investigation? Why is it not all parties? I guess republicans and others really don’t care about whether these companies are following the rules set forth by them. I don’t want to make that claim, and it isn’t my intention to say that they others don’t, but the article really makes me wonder where the rest of the parties stand on an issue like this.

Thank you Democrats for trying to hold companies like twitter responsible for what they should be doing to protect us. I stand neutral on the issue and we’ll see how it progresses.

See you all later!
