Most student apps share data with advertisors

Some time back, we covered an article i’m finally getting a chance to blog.

Boy, being sick has definitely taken a tole, and I have been feeling better as of late.

This article is titled Most apps used in US classrooms share students’ personal data with advertisers, researchers find and it comes from Cyberscoop.

I found this article quite interesting, especially since we’ve talked about Coppa in the past.

Since this article was written some time ago, it is not talking about this past tuesday in this first paragraph.

The first paragraph of this article states:

A whopping 96% of the apps used in U.S. K-12 schools share children’s personal information with third parties — including advertisers — often without the knowledge or consent of users or schools, according to a study published Tuesday.

That study is a link and we’re linking it here too.

The research was done by a nonprofit company named Internet Safety Labs.

This follows research by Me2B which was its former name. I believe we covered that research on this blog, but I don’t remember that to be the case. You can search it out and read about it if you wish.

There is a lot to unpack, so instead of me doing it, I’ll file this under the better late than never department, and something to think about.
