Phishlabs posted a blog post, and I caught the last 20 minutes of a webinar that talked about what this post does.
They had it more as a discussion between several people this time, and I found what I heard interesting.
A Spotlight on Cybersecurity: 2022 Trends and 2023 Predictions is the article.
The first paragraph says
In 2022, geopolitical unrest and an expanding online attack surface contributed to the emergence of several themes across the cyber landscape. Infrastructures associated with opposing ideologies were highly targeted, with government agencies, supply chains, and IOT devices falling victim to high-profile campaigns. Cybercriminals launched increasingly advanced attacks on vulnerable entities, with DDoS, ransomware, and hacking for a cause all consistently making headlines. And governments around the world began responding with laws and regulations to combat the escalating threats associated with cyberattacks on organizations big and small.
We know that tentions across the political divide have been high this year, and even some last year depending on where you are. Some have lead to some kind of attack online, some have been offline riots.
This may be a problem moving forward that we must at least acknowledge if nothing else. While I’m not a politics guy by trade, I know there’s a lot of problems in this world, some caused online and a lot offline.
Headings include:
- Hacktivism and Geopolitics
- Expanded Attack Targets
- Improved Attack Responses
- Laws and Regulations
We know that the laws and regulations are way behind what is actually happening. Remember the tech podcast covering something called SOPA and PIPPA? They were laws to supposedly protect data and the like in some way but was full of lots of lies as it came out. You can look these up as examples of things tried and failed.
While we have coppa, online places are still collecting that data and not getting punished by it.
Each section has at least a paragraph on what is going on and thoughts, so check this article out.
