Three phone scams that are now making the rounds

Today, while working, I got another call from a company who I’ve talked to about web development. This time, they called me through Skype using a Los Angeles 213 telephone number.

This is the site for Goigi.

As scams go, I can’t say whether they are or not as the site looks legitimate enough. Underneath their contact form, they’ve got telephone numbers for the U.S. and Canada, U.K., Australia and India.

I believe they called me from a 646 area code before. While I was polite to this guy who called me, they got my number from the Who Is Directory as their first contact was about Email Host Security.

If you are disabled, look at the site carefully. You’ll see links here that are links, but are not properly tagged. Want to do business with them? Your choice.

But you might get other types of calls that may not give you a website like this. While this may be a legitimate call looking for business, you must be skeptable.

Fake fee to release a prisoner

This has been around for quite awhile. They’ll call like these guys did, but instead of looking for business, they’ll tell you that some friend or family member has been arrested and they can get out for a fee. The only place you should go is to the police department or jail to discuss these matters, not paying someone you don’t know who just calls you out of the blue.

If they tell you someone that you know, take the number down, then call that person to see if they’re OK. If you know someone is in prison, you’ll get a call from them collect and its up to you to pay those charges or you’ll hear it on the local news if you’re lucky.

There are tips from the article you should follow too.

False claim of fraudulent activity

I went once to take money and put it in to paypal. It was blocked and got a text from the bank asking if It was me. I answered it. I didn’t get a call, and you should really be watching your stuff to see if there is a problem anyway.

Paying a fee for fake fines

Never got one of these. But I wouldn’t pay in gift cards or wire transfer anyway. I set up an account somewhere, but I also kno if I have to pay money, I pay the people directly using a form of payment they accept.
