Hello folks,
I would call this an opinion piece, although it is a good one to read.

While the article has some very interesting points, there’s one aspect of this that was not talked about.
The article is titled How TikTok failed to make the case for itself which you might find of interest.
What didn’t get talked about was the challenges. What did this CEO have to say about the challenges that some could have been deadly? The article here didn’t say, but Kim Komando did indicate that some of these challenges such as the Chicken Challenge
This is not the only challenge we’ve covered between my podcast and Throwback Saturday Night.
This blog post talks about a supposed filter that could remove clothing or other aspects of things and give you a naked picture.
While this blog post highlights the fact that maybe we’re banning it for the wrong reason, if we don’t give companies a reason to change regardless, we’re no better off.
I’m not going to call for an out right ban. I honestly think that Facebook, TikTok and Twitter all have their faults. Even Linked in may have its fault on collecting more than what they need to do their job.
Its gotten so bad that Kim Komando is telling subscribers and listeners that you should stop sharing your contact list as sites like facebook can shadow people who have no knowledge such as doctors offices and the like.
I will give them credit, this blog post talks about people who have seizures can skip videos that set those seizures off in the first place.
Nothing is going to be 100 percent effective on protecting our data. The only thing that we can do is hope that legislation is put in place that tells companies what they can do with the data we share, they should not make it manditory to have us share that data for basic functionality, and make it clear why for example they need our contacts. Telling us that you will use it for telling us about our friends coming on the service is nice, but that’s all you should be doing!
The CEO was prepared with statements and notes and that’s great. What will happen to the company, I can’t say. But if we reign in TikTok, we need to reign in other companies for doing the same thing.
And don’t let me remind you that Kim did report that TikTok did have a keylogger, we don’t know that about the other apps like facebook and twitter.
Do I even have to remind you of this blog post about your dead relitives and how I went off on it because people will start there and ask for thousands to get their remains back?
There is more you can research about TikTok so you can make the decision that is best for you. They do have a point, none of us older people use it, its meant more for the younger croud and there’s more covered within the main article than I’ve covered here.
The post on Mastodon that made me look and write about this:
BrianKrebs: Boosting Casey Newton (caseynewton): In light of today’s hearing, I wrote about how TikTok has made life harder on itself, including by refusing to admit the role that China plays in its business and in deciding its fate

Image 1: As this whole drama has unfolded, I have been waiting for the moment when someone at TikTok would level with us — would say yes, China does make various demands of our parent company, and decides our future, and this is awkward but we are doing our best to address it in these ways. The fact that no one there ever said that gave the strong impression that they couldn’t say that — and in a low-trust environment, that sort of thing breeds suspicions that are difficult to overcome.
