The big story, Genesis Market has been taken down

Hello folks,

I guess the big news is that Genesis market was taken down. Krebs on Security has an article titled FBI Seizes Bot Shop ‘Genesis Market’ Amid Arrests Targeting Operators, Suppliers which was a very interesting reporting job for Brian.

The first paragraph is interesting among the rest of the story as it highlights what’s coming.

It says:

Several domain names tied to Genesis Market, a bustling cybercrime store that sold access to passwords and other data stolen from millions of computers infected with malicious software, were seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) today. The domain seizures coincided with more than a hundred arrests in the United States and abroad targeting those who allegedly operated the service, as well as suppliers who continuously fed Genesis Market with freshly-stolen data.

What’s interesting about the whole thing is the fact that folks from all over were arrested and the other fact is that several domains were taken over.

The second article on this is coming from our new friends at databreaches.net. Should’ve gone ahead and only had one post, but wanted to give mastodon the last 10 when I set it up. Then it becomes backlogged but the posts aren’t mine, so I que them. This databreaches article is titled Seized Genesis Market Data is Now Searchable in Have I Been Pwned, Courtesy of the FBI and “Operation Cookie Monster” which talks about how haveibeenpwned having the info for searching to see if you are affected by this.

Great info.

The third one comes from Ars Technica and Michael in Tennessee sent this to TSB recently. I’ve not read it as of yet, but its titled Operation Cookie Monster: Feds seize “notorious hacker marketplace”.

The article does link to Brian’s coverage in spots and does have more info than others.

Have you read stories on this? What did you think?
