I didn’t know that IOS had a recovery key. While I don’t have a Mac, I did go in to the settings mentioned in this apple insider and I don’t remember seeing a recovery key.
The article indicates that it is 28 digits long and it must be stored somewhere safe.
Your passcode is as secure as you make it, but they are indicating that the Wall Street Journal is reporting that people are being drugged in some cases or coersed in to giving up their passcodes in other means.
